Cutler beaten out by Tebow on NFL top-100 list

Cutler beaten out by Tebow on NFL top-100 list
    Tribune report

    9:46 a.m. CDT, June 28, 2012
Five Chicago Bears made the NFL Network's Top 100 Players of 2012 list, but Jay Cutler wasn't one of them. Among the 13 quarterbacks who made the list ahead of Cutler: New York Jets backup Tim Tebow.

The complete list -- voted on by NFL players -- was revealed Wednesday. Quarterbacks Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers and Drew Brees of the New Orleans Saints were voted 1-2, and New England's Tom Brady was voted the league's fourth-best player.

The other quarterbacks to make the top 100 (and their ranking): Ben Roethlisberger (30), Eli Manning (31), Cam Newton (40), Matthew Stafford (41), Peyton Manning (50), Philip Rivers (61), Michael Vick (70), Joe Flacco (74), Tony Romo (91) and Tebow (95).

In 10 games before being injured last season, Cutler threw for 2,319 yards and 13 touchdowns with seven interceptions and had a passer rating of 85.7. In 15 games for the Denver Broncos, Tebow threw for 1,729 yards and 12 TDs with six interceptions and had a passer rating of 72.9. He also ran for 660 yards and six TDs and guided the Broncos into the playoffs.

The only Bears to crack the list were Julius Peppers (26), Matt Forte (33), Devin Hester (48), Brian Urlacher (51) and Lance Briggs (72).

Cam Newton did also. Tebow's team made the playoffs and won a game, he was going to get some credit. Cutler got hurt and the team tanked. Guarantee if he makes a deep run this year and he's healthy througout he and Marshal will be back on that list.

Bottom line, I put Jay Cutler at #5 on that list if I have to pick from the list the guy who I would most like to QB my team. That said, I like Cutler's persona and the way he handles the media. He is not your average "ideal" when it comes to QB personality...and I happen to like that about him. He's got a little of that Jimmy Mac, FU attitude, and I think a lot of Bear fans kinda dig that.

    Rogers,
    Brees,
    Brady,
clearly are the best QB's in the league right now. They can carry a team that is lacking in other areas to the playoffs and make a deep run.
    Then it gets fuzzy.
Next group you got Big Ben, Eli, Cutler, Stafford, Rivers, Romo, Schaub, and you could pretty much interchange them. Any of these guys are going to help your team win and make runs into the playoffs but they are not carrying the team to deep runs if they are not near complete.
The rest of the guys are either young and you cannot make a definate decision, to old or need replaced.

Well, that's enough for me to justify throwing the whole thing out....Srsly, Tebow over Cutler? BWAHAHAHHAHA, 47.3% completion for a career vs. 61.1%?

Neither Tebow or Cutler deserve to be on that list. Maybe this season Cutler can shine and earn a spot in the top 100, now that he has NFL-level weapons on offense. Of course this will depend upon the oline giving him enough protection to be able to actually USE the weapons he's been given.

I often wonder how things would have been different if we had had decent WR's and a decent offensive line here when Cutler arrived. Or even a mediocre set of WR's who were not stone-hand midgets who couldn't run a route if their life depended on it. I think Cutler would have been on that top 100 list every year if he had landed anywhere except the Bears "Offense Hell" team.

But, I do have to admit, Cutler DID land on a Jerry Angelo team that drafted/signed zillions of safeties. That's got to count for something, right? They even gave him a defensive back as his #1 WR to throw to (Hester). It's enough to have you crying in your beer to think about.

I'm looking forward to seeing these guys coach. Hope they're good.

I tend to agree, I think tebow got on there b/c his team got into the playoffs and won a game in the playoffs. I don't think you'll see him there next year. I do think Cutler will be if he stays healthy and this OL holds up.

So Cutler takes a team to 7-3 and clear pathway to the playoffs, gets hurt and the team falls to 8-8 - therefore he doesn't make the list.
Peyton Manning doesn't play a down, team sucks bad enough to get the #1 pick, he gets #50 on the list.

    Makes perfect sense.

Cutler is NOT Peyton Manning though. Peyton has won a SB, and while in Indy was had one of the best winning %'s as a team over the past decade of anyone in the NFL. Cutler doesn't have that respect. But yes the situations are similar. Cutler now that he has the weapons around him stays healthy and makes playoff runs; and wins a sb, then he will be looked at as a top 100 player when he gets hurt and the team tanks b/c of it.
