Chicago Bears Who's the Bigger Playmaker Urlacher or Briggs?

I know Urlacher's "the name", but I've noticed over the last few years Briggs has been the one that's more consistent, game in game out. Maybe Urlacher's lost half a step (if we got 2001-03, 05-06 Urlacher this year, I wouldn't even question us winning it all), but I see him knocked on his ass more than I've ever seen Briggs lately. Granted he plays a more important position in this defense, but still....

I voted for Briggs, but still believe Urlacher is more vital.

Both had great play, but Urlacher had more BIG plays. He also was better statistically the past two seasons:

    Briggs
    Tackles Sck PDef Int FF
    2011 105 0 4 1 2
    2010 89 2 7 2 2
    TOTAL:
    194
    2 11 3 4
    Urlacher
    Tackles Sck PDef Int FF
    2011 102 0 7 3 0
    2010 125 4 10 1 2
    TOTAL:
    227
    4 17 4
    2
I'd add that Urlacher's position is more challenging to play. He's the quarterback of the defense. It's a quantum leap in challenge, complexity and responsibility.

Urlacher's also 3 years older than Briggs, which means he'll start declining ahead of Briggs. Which makes this poll what?

She did playboy again! Oh man ...

I went with 54. I would love to see him play weakside for a little bit.

The interesting part of this debate to me is not asked. Who effects the opposing offenses more? You have to acknowledge that Briggs might get some tackles because a back "breaks it outside" due to a clogged up hole by Urlacher, or that Urlacher gets a pick down the middle because Briggs has his guy completely covered.

I don't think stats can really make the full case here.

I'd say offenses gameplan more for Urlacher. Just a hunch though.

I say 54. I didn't look up stats or anything, but he always seems to make the big plays - forced fumbles, interceptions, breaking up TDs, it seems like 54 has more impact on the game. If the poll asked who more consistently made plays, then Briggs. But 54 makes the big plays.

And I guess that play he made for Jenny was a big play too...
