At some point, months back I suppose, I stopped trying to reason with folks over there and turned most of my attention to towards making Spartan cry and exposing the ignorant & one-sided arguments/opinions of guys like WOLE and Soothsayer.

I guess the mods of the CBMB hate those who troll the trolls (while allowing the ACTUAL trolls to do whatever they want), though, because I tried to log in a couple weeks back and couldn't. I no longer consider the place worthy of being bothered with re-registering, so I came here. The CBMB is FAR too negative, and the way the populace turns on our players every time they deserve/need a new contract or get hurt sickens me. It's "Jay Cutler sucks" this, and "Matt Forte is overrated" that over there, and it's ALL TOO BORING at this point.

I'd imagine things are slow this week because there really isn't anything noteworthy going on. Things will pick up later this month...and hopefully Matt Forte getting a new deal or AT LEAST signing his tender will be a part of it...
I tried to get along with everyone on the CBMB. But you're 100% right. That place is pretty negative. I got tired of the posters running down players. Some real haters there. And it makes no sense to me. Why hate on your own players, if you are a Bears fan?

So I left the CBMB messageboard about a year ago for good. I never got banned. I just didn't like the messageboard. I stumbled upon THIS messageboard by accident and found that I liked it. This board is really good (people seem to have high football IQ's here). More positive about the team and players. The mods here are really good too.

I agree with your original post too. Things will pick up on this board soon. And Forte will be fine too

I never liked the CBMB, never posted there. It was always too negative and too childish, just bashing players for no reason. I've been on the Scout boards a long time, but never really posted much football talk for similar reasons. They tend to gang up on a guy with a different opinion, and they love beating topics to death, and then keep on going and going and going.

I have been very impressed with this board in my short time here. Some very knowledgeable posters and calm discussions without any bashing (other than in fun). I don't have a lot of technical knowledge of the game myself, I've always been more of a just sit back and enjoy the game with a few too many brewskis kind of guy.

This time of year has always been horrible on MBs. It's especially bad this year due to the higher anticipation level with a franchise QB like we've never had in my lifetime (including the punky one), a for-real receiver group and a new OC who seems to be adapting offensive packages to the abilities of the players instead of jamming a square player into a round hole, and the waiting for the Forte deal. Two more weeks to training camp, and then we'll all be better off. I'm planning on three trips. And I am going absolutely crazy waiting.

I like Hester and on the surface it appears like a good deed, but look below the surface a little fellas. Hester isn't opening up his personal wallet and giving this family money. There are a lot of people, WHOSE NAME WILL NEVER BE MADE KNOWN TO THAT 4 YEAR OLD, who are the real heroes in this. They're the ones donating money to the child, not Hester.

I'm sure I'll get flamed for this post, but it bugs me when people genuflect before those who aren't opening up their wallet to do squat. And that's cool if people don't want to give. But Hester is going to be taking credit for money being given by other people. Yea I have a problem with that kind of phony, self aggrandizing giving. You see this all the time with many famous people. They start organizations and use other people's money and take credit for the giving. No different here. Yea Hester is showing up and giving away other people's money and taking full credit for it and that just isn't cool in my book. Recognize the people who are actually make this possible Hester because you are not writing this family a personal check.

but the fact is that devin hester is giving money out of his pocket in a sense.............

    Time= Money...........................................

soo lets say a person who is famous would charge x amount of money to do the same deal correct....hester is removing the X(which would be the cost of him doing the function).........

And where does it say that Hester wont donate any of his own money? I seemed to have missed that part in the article.

You make a pretty bold assumption, and then use that assumption to make even bolder claims about what Hester will (or wont) do for charity. You know what they say about assumptions....

Wished more people were like Hester. And wished that others would take to his route. He seems like a classy kind of guy off the field. Way to go Devin!

Where does it say that he is donating money out of his own pocket in addition to this? I do however see that all the people going to this event will be donating money out of their pocket but all the credit goes to Hester. So yes I stand by my original comments that I'm not down with this phony giving.

NFL players do a lot of good that we don't see. We mostly just read about the players who get into trouble.
Until I see some confirmation that Hester is giving some of his own personal money, I have no reason to believe that he is. And he's getting plenty of press about giving away other people's money at this event. He doesn't seem to have a problem with that? That's real crass IMHO. And I believe that a lot of these athletes do good off the field that we never here about. It just bugs me when they have these kind fo events and they take all the credit for the money that's going to someone and the money isn't even coming from them. That's my beef. And you see a lot of this kind of stuff among athletes and celebrities.

BBPB, you're missing my point. The only way they can make money for this event is to make it public. More people = more donations. So, Hester isn't trying to be a "big shot" here. He's only trying to lend his time (and his name) so that they can make the most money to help the family with medical expenses.

But while the event has to be public, Devin, doesn't have to go public about any personal money he may donate to any good cause - including this one. Heck, I give money to charity, but I don't follow that up by bragging to my friends that I gave to a charity. That's my own business, and really not appropriate to brag about.

We won't know if, or how much, money he gave. We don't need to know. But it's not necessarily accurate to assume that he didn't donate money - just due to the fact he chooses not to disclose this. That's the personal side of this IMHO.

We can respectfully "agree to disagree" on this one. That's cool.

Ok JABF99, you're swaying me a little with your argument. I'll back off on this one and give Hester the benefit of the doubt.
