At no point during the development of Jonathan Quinn did he look like a qualified NFL player. But Terry Shea thought so. Bears offensive coordinator Terry Shea came from Kansas City preaching a new style of offense. The Bears felt it would be in their best interest to use a quarterback familiar in the system as a backup. Quinn met all the requirements...except for being able to throw a ball.
That's because at no point did Shea look like a qualified Offensive Coordinator. Well..... maybe the offensive part fit.

That whole period, otherwise known as The Dark Ages, involved not only the legendary revolving door at QB but also offensive coordinators who are best forgotten (Shea, Gary Crowton, The Shoopster... even Turner, to a degree).

I thought about nominating Ron Turner too. But we have had much worse than RT. And I felt like we never gave the offense the weapons to be great under Turner. Although, it's a miracle I didn't have a heart attack or stroke during some of his worst games that had bone-headed play calling

Good call Henry. Forgot about McClown. And agree on Wanny, Shea and Shoop too. Good memory.

Great list but I have to take exception with some guys. BBPB can't ever just leave well enough alone, I know. lol

Pace is a HOF OT that was milking 1 final season. It was well known at the time that little could be expected from him. The only reason they signed him was to give Cutler some hope. But they knew Pace was banged up bad.

Fred Miller was actually a very solid RT for a few short years.

Other than that, you've been together one heck of a list bud.

Good points. When we signed Pace I was really looking forward to him having 1 last decent year left in the tank. When he played for us and looked so bad, I was embarrassed for him. He stayed that "one year too many" as a lot of great players do (Kreutz did this too). I just hope our own great guys like Urlacher, Peppers & Briggs don't do this. Better to leave on top.

You make another good point regarding Fred Miller. We did get some decent play out of him. We've certainly had worse olinemen.

The sad thing is that we've had so many bad QB's over the years that you can throw about 20 names out there and make a good case for them being one of the worst. I don't know if there's another team in the NFL that you could do that with.

When you think about it, it's amazing we drafted that many bad QB's. You'd think the law of averages would have dropped a couple decent ones into our lap, just by blind luck. I can't even blame this on Jerry Angelo. It was a disaster even before HE came here.
