Do you think Rex Grossman would have worked out here if he had been surrounded by top-tier receiver talent and a rock solid offensive line?

I do. We saw how good he could be in 2006..... before he started sucking in Arizona
Definitely not. I think in '06 we saw what Grossman really is at the core. A real chump when he gets pressured. Those Gator QBs suck the big one.

I remember those 6 games well. I thought we had our QB problems solved. But then reality hit. Squeeze Grossman and watch him give it away whether its by fumbling a snap or throwing it directly to a defensive player. He simply never had what it took to be a successful QB in this league.
The fact is that Grossman has shown that he's nothing more than a capable NFL backup. So it never would have worked out here because it didn't workout anywhere else. I just can't stand gator QBs. Virtually everyone of them sucks at the NFL level as a pocket passer.

Confidence is huge for any QB. Once they lose that it's tough. Until this year, the offense has been the poor neglected stepchild of the Bears. They just didn't understand how to build a great offense, and frankly didn't care about the offense. It was all about the defense.
This is one reason why we only have 1 dusty old Super Bowl trophy (and it's over a quarter of a century old). And guess what.......we HAD a decent offense in '85 when we last WON a Super Bowl. Go figure. It ain't rocket science.
I thought Rex was "The Answer" at first. I thought I'd die, I was so excited. And then the wheels came off. He looked scared at times (you could see it in his eyes at times). He looked like he was going to wet all over himself.
I often wonder if our long QB drought would have been shorter if we had simply put a rock-solid offensive line out there with rock-solid receivers. With our great defenses, you wouldn't need a GREAT quarterback, but just one who was average.....who had SOME chance of survival with NFL-level weapons around him. We had a bunch of wannabee's and deadbeats.

The line broke down, Rex shit his pants cause he had no protection, the fans turned on him.... he has the talent, we all saw that. The problem is, he was a mental midget who fell apart the moment he saw someone coming after him.
Didn't help that the crap line ended his previous two seasons early with injuries. Can't say I blame him for always looking over his shoulder. Cutler's line is worse, but thankfully he is stronger mentally

Cutler is very rare, as far as being able to absorb brutal punishment over-and-over again, and still not lose his confidence. I've seen some of the great QB's turn to crap in games with less physical beating than Cutler took every game. I'm not talking about a few sacks. I'm talking about getting beaten to the point I wouldn't be surprised if Cutler urinated blood the next day. Some of those games were vicious beatings.
Rex folded. Cutler got mad (I'm thankful he didn't kill Mad Mike Martz after some of those crazy game calls). People can say what they want about Cutler, but you can't question his toughness. He's one tough dude.

Not behind this line, cause not only are they bad, they're big and bad. Since rex is like 5'2, it would be awful without protection, whereas Jay can run around
but behind a good line, yes. big time.
I saw Jaw's take on top qb's and one of the criteria was his QB % vs. the blitz. Another was movement inside the pocket. Many qb's look good behind a good line and time to throw. Many look great, but when adversity hits (or they get hit) the mechanics, presence of mind, and leadership mindset (sitting at end of bench not talking or looking at photos) goes away.
Wrex is a quality backup imo.
