How quickly do you think our new offense will come together as a unit?

All of us understand this is a team sport to the max. The Eagles "Dream Team" is a recent example of how it takes more than just throwing good players together, to be a great team. It takes time for players to develop a chemistry and timing as a unit. I hate that word "jelling" but it is, in fact, a critical component to a team being successful.

We've added a number of critically important pieces to our team this off season. We have a new offensive coordinator. We have a new offensive scheme (don't kid yourself, this isn't going to look at all like Martz' scheme). At the very least we are moving our oline players around to new positions - and some new starters will be in the mix.

How soon will we see this team have all the moving pieces working like a fine tuned machine? I'm curious what you guys think.

Eh we only really added 1 starter to the O. And he's worked w/the passing/qb coach and the qb. I think the team should be nearly jelled; depending on if the young injury guys can stay healthy and perform.

yup. Tice is installing an offense supposedly based on the player abilities/talents/skills. It shouldn't be a 2-3 year Fartz learning curve. As long as the play-calling is good and the o-line can hold up it's end of the bargain, this offense should already be finely tuned. Now that's not to say it won't become even more finely tuned through the season....

I tend to agree 99. I don't think this is going to be a "hit the ground running" transition. It will take some time, however, I do think that the familiarity that exists with the additions (Tice already being in place from last year, Bates input and familiarity with Cutler AND Marshall, etc) will cut down on the typical time frame that one might expect inserting a new offense.

I expect the offense to be serviceable by the end of training camp and good enough to win after the Bye week.

2013 season I expect everything to be second nature and humming like a...well, pick your own analogy.

All of the changes have been good changes. But changes none the less.

Even though they have starting experience at other positions on the oline, there will be changnes. The oline may have a new starting LT (and yes, it will be a change since Williams hasn't played the position in over a year - and he wasn't very good the last time he WAS there). Certainly a new LG, and basically a rookie RT (Carimi had minimal experience last year).

Marshall is new to our team, even though he played with Cutler at Denver, prior to his Miami stint. We have a rookie TE, and really, ALL of the TE's will be used differently than the past few years. Make no mistake, Tice is light-years different from Mad Mike Martz. We have a new RB who will be a significant part of this offense. Hester will be in a somewhat different role. We have Jefferies who SURELY will get significant snaps this year - and he's a rookie too.

Cutler will (I think) have more authority in this new offense (and we have Bates in the mix too, who as a former OC himself, is going to have a voice now). It's not just Martz dictating everything. This is change that will show up on gameday.

So there ARE changes and new faces and people at new positions. Don't kid yourself. This group will not be perfect in the beginning of the season. I'm glad they are facing the Colts for that 1st game. But then they go to Lambeau for a war. A huge game.

I expect a great season. I don't expect to see us near our potential in the first few games. The offense is a lot of moving parts, and we've changed those moving parts around quite a bit this off season - and we have a new OC and a different offensive scheme. Yes, this is a bit of change.

I'd like all the fits and starts, bad luck, bumps and bruises at the beginning of the season. After the first 1/4 of the season I'd like to see things really start to gel. Once things start to click I think Tice and Bates can use some really nice mismatches and gameplans. Which will come sooner when there is trust with the WR's and consistency with the O line.

I totally agree. I think we may crush the Colts in our opener, and that will be a great confidence builder. But then the "real" season begins with Green Bay (at Lambeau Field). We may look butt ugly at times. Watch our fans have a coronary if we do, because many (not our posters here, but the masses) don't understand that it will take some time to PERFECT the chemistry and timing of our offense.

A great offense is a very complicated animal. It's kind of like Denver fans thinking that the acquisition of Peyton Manning = Super Bowl this year. Don't hold your breath on THAT one. He may be great at Denver, but it may take awhile to get their offense working chemistry-wise too.

Anyway, thats just my 2-cents worth. I may be totally wrong.

I think how quick this offense comes together depends largely on the timing between the O-Line, Cutty and the WRs. First will the O-Line give Cutty enough time to drop back and make his reads. If he has enough time there than will the release of the ball be timed with the WRs routes. It takes several snaps at game speed to get this all down.

Good points. In fact, there is no substitute for game reps. Even pre-season games are not quite the same as "real" games at "real" game speed - in games that define your season. Training camp is all well and good, but it is nothing like playing that 2nd game against Green Bay at Labeau Field.

In the heat of battle like that, it is where chemistry, timing & trust in your teammates are forged.

After a few games (maybe after the first 4 games) we'll know what we have for this season. Our offense should be 100% ramped up by then and firing on all cylinders. We should see the team get better and better each game. My only point here in this thread is it isn't realistic to expect perfection initially. I just don't think that's being "real" about our season. And if we do look a bit rough in the early games it's not time to panic (as Bears fans often do). Wait for it. A great season will come, but it may take a tiny bit to get this bugger off the ground and flying right. :smile:

You keep bolding that week 2 game 99. I love it. Such a good time to face GB @ home this year. I think the Bears are going to find out where they are at or where they need to be right out of the gate, and have any major changes handled coming out of the early bye week.

The Eagles "Dream Team" never really got it last year IMO, which doesn't mean they won't have it figured out this season. They are still impressive on paper. It might take the Bears longer also, but I believe the bye week marks the spot. The worm, if needed, will turn there.
