ok, got a Texas cop story. It had been a few years after I had moved from Chicago to Houston and me and my wife were coming back really late at night from Austin back to Houston on a two lane highway -- maybe 2 am or so. I had my radar detector on and was going faster than I should have. Can't remember exactly how fast, but not too bad - maybe like 20 over or something. As I was cresting a hill, the detector started screaming - either the detector couldn't pick it up until near the end of the hill or the guy was turning it on when he saw headlights. Either way, the guy got me and pulled me over.

So it's two am and this guy is walking up to the car --- as he gets near the window he is just putting on his trooper hat. I look up and see a bald head and sunglasses.... friggin sunglasses at 2 am. It was like a movie tough guy cop. I just looked at my wife and we just knew we weren't going to talk our way out of this one. He was a jerk. Gave us a ticket and we went on, but that was my intro to Texas cops.

A couple of years ago there was a story from sportwriter, I think either ESPN or Fox any ways they were say in the story that the NFL is doing a very poor job evaluating and teaching then how to stay out of trouble off the field. That the coachs were only interested in winning and the owner just wanted to make more money and all of this was coming at the cost of the players. He wrote how in the earily days of todays NFL you very rarely ever read about a player getting in trouble with the law. I LMAO when I read that, the story is 100% right you didn't read about super stars getting in trouble with law for things like DUIs or fights, but it damn sure wasn't because they didn't happen. Back in the day cops did arrest players, and there was really two reasons for that one is the laws were different and two most sport figures were like Gods to these people. I don't know how many times someone on the team would get a call to go pick up another player either at the PD or their car and of course most of the time some bar in the early morning hours, oh almost for got the most important place the local cat house.

Today everyone in the world seems to be out to make a name for themselves, even if a cop wanted to give a player a break he couldn't because how many people driving by or standing by have phones that can record eveything that has happen.

Years ago my wife and I were driving from Colorado Springs to Loves Park, and yes I was doing 55 miles an hour in 40 mile an hour speed limit. Just before I hit Loves Park, a Loves Park cop comes out of no where. Of course I stop, first question he ask me "do you know how fast you were going" my answer why don't you. After asking for my paperwork and me giving them to him. He comes back after reading my license, with "so your kind thinks your above the law", my reply to this was just give me the damn ticket and I'll be on my way. Oh it doesn't work that way in my town, your not in Denver anymore, your going to jail. Getting pissed I asked what the F for "well for doing 25 mph over the speed limit, the speed limit sign that read 30 mph was like 2 feet from the front of my car and the Loves Park sign wa about 10 feet away.

Then he asked for my wifes ID and she said it was in the trunk, the open the truck and get. my answer one words F***off, "well I guess we'll just add resisting arrest to your speeding ticket. Just then a CHP car was coming out of Loves Park and made a U turn behind the police car.

The LP cop told me to stay put and went back to talk to the CHP officer, after a couple of minutes the CHP officer came up to my car handed me my papers and said you can go. The hold time the LP cops is in the CHP officers face before I can start my car and get out of there, the CHP officers slammed the LP cop to the ground and has him handcuffed. As I am looking back at what is happening the CHP officer, says "F***ing Raider Fans" and waves me on.
LMAO!!! No, I'd say that tops mine.

My experience was with the CHP guys. They patrol that I70 corridor just looking for the cars returning from the casino's and that wasn't the only time I got stopped. But the local cops in small towns have got to be the worst. They must all model themselves after Jackie Gleason doing Sheriff Buford T. Justice.

I think they spend their off hours polishing their shiny chrome pistols, counting their bullets then stand in front of a mirror practicing their quick draw snarling, "you in a heap of trouble boy".

The looks right at me says "you stay here I'll be right back" I wonder if he is still looking for me, because I got the H out of there. Back then the ticket wouldn't have been that big a deal, but damn I didn't want to have call my wife.
Oh yeah, facing the wife is always worse than facing the judge.

Oh that's so true. I know from living in GB that the Packers were local hero's and you seldom of ever heard a bad word about any of them. I used to party at the Carleton West with some of those guys back in the 80's and I can honestly say that most of us were none too sober when we left. I can't remember anyone getting stopped and there were no cops sitting around in the parking lot just waiting for guys to leave like there are now.
