Looking good overall at 1st practice

About to wrap up first scrimmage. Lotta talent everywhere. Not much joking around like past year. Everyone pretty serious. Tice personally took charge of oline today. Marshall awesome. But go figure, Hester looks GREAT. Gotta go. More when I get home tonight.

Forte looks awesome receiving. U can tell it's the 1st scrimmage. Timing between Cutler and receivers is off. Rookie WR's look a bit lost.

Peanut and Marshall must be hitting it off as friends. They spent a lot of time together when there was down time. Peanut looked animated and it looked like he was trying to help Brandon quite a bit. I will try to post some pics when I get home tonight.

Well, I was hoping they would gel right away because of past experience, but maybe previous practices weren't enough. Hopefully by the end of preseason...

I m on the way home now. My son is driving so I can update here. I know u can't tell anything from a 1st day without pads or hitting. Most of the guys looked like they were shaking off rust. Now u r going to think I m nuts, but the best player I saw all day was Hester. I did not expect that. Not at all. Every year We hear the Hester hype, but CLEARLY he is a stud WR this year. I only saw him drop 1 pass all day. His route running was great & when he caught the ball he had sick moves. He owned the dbacks. I also noticed him and Cutler laughing and interacting - clearly having great chemistry on and off the field.

Has he dropped a lot of passes in past years? When you think about it, this is what his 3rd, 4th year as a WR? And really for the first time in his adult or teen life? It could well have taken 4+ to get to the point where he's a decent WR(not going to be great but he'll be a decent 3rd/4th option).

Again I'll point out that Tice said Marshal/Forte/Hester were the guys they want to get the ball to. Anyone thinking he's going to take a back seat to anyone(bennett/jefferies) is fooling themselves. he might not get 16 GS's, but he'll have 16 G's next to his name; and he'll see a lot of plays too. He's got to much big play potential(hate that word but w/Hester it's true) to not give him a couple handfulls of opertunities each game.

670 had Double Z interview Marsh/Cutler and both said the team is going to take what the D gives them, via run, or pass, and to whomever is open. I still see a 4+ 700-800 yd WR/TE's instead of a couple 1+k guys with the rest being around 500-700.

We go to camp every year. Hester has never been as smooth and sure-handed as we saw today. And yes, in other years he would drop more passes, and his route running wasn't this smooth.

Ric, I think you may be right on all of those points. Hester is a unique player. He now knows his part of the offense, and he looks completely comfortable out there. In fact, you could tell he was having FUN out there today. I could also tell that he and Cutler have a warm friendship (at least on the practice field). They were totally relaxed and laughing.

Cutler & the rest of the WR's were a bit off all practice. But not with Hester or Forte. Clearly, Forte is just as good of a receiver at this point as any WR on the team. Fluid, smooth, fantastic hands. When you see him running routes, you could never tell that he wasn't a WR. He's that good. Man, I'm glad we've locked him into a longer term contract now.
