Marcus McNeill. He's had health issues, but when he's healthy, he's better than Webb by a longshot.

Saw this on wiki: McNeill was born in Chicago, Illinois. An extra incentive?

Don't you really have to ask yourself why McNeill is still available though? Too much money given the injury risk? Is it just the injuries alone? He's the type of LT that would be an upgrade for 70% of the teams in the NFL if he is healthy, so why is he still available? I understand the Rams have an interest in him lately, but it's late in the year to grab a starter at the last minute unless there is an emergency.

All I can figure is that Tice is honestly thinking he has the pieces he needs to roll out a solid oline this year. If that is the case (only he knows for sure) then he probably wants to mold these younger players rather than do a quick fix with an older/injured guy. Otherwise, I'd think he'd bring in a guy like McNeill. It would make a lot of sense.

I think Tice's future in the NFL hangs on this season. If that oline is solid, and the offense delivers, he will look like a genius and probably can redeem his career & get a head coaching job. Maybe not THIS year, but it's a solid possibility in the next couple of years.

He has no hope if he ends up with a rotten oline and it tanks our season. None. His future is crap in the NFL moving forward.

OK, then my question is, If Webb wins, does CW ride the pine or does he get a shot at getting his old guard spot back? Would realy suck for CW to lose his starting spot cause he had to push Webb. CW , to me , deserve a shot at his old position if he's not the starting LT. If he were to lose the battle for guard so be it, but he still should have a shot at winning it.

I've heard the coaches say several times (including Tice) that they want the best five linemen on the field and I think CWill is certainly one of them. I would think he will still get a shot at guard if Webb wins the LT spot.

Papa Bear, I know I overthink these things, so maybe this is dead wrong. But I asked myself the exact same question regarding C.Will. How does he end up on the bench when he is a really solid LG?

I came to the conclusion that Tice realizes that every season injuries ARE going to happen. So he's trying to have the highest quality depth at tackle. Whoever loses the LT battle will still be pretty solid as a backup tackle. On the other hand, we're loaded with solid interior linemen. If we lose a guard, or even Garza, we're going to be OK. It's that tackle position that Tice wants a rock solid backup for.

Anyway, that's all I can figure. Otherwise it doesn't make any sense to me.

I hope thats the case. CW does deserve a shot at his old position. BUT, does playing LT now and not guard hurt his chances? Reps and that "GEL" word for the line is my concern
