    Bush hopes for bigger role

    http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d...-chicago-bears

Bush wants to be more than backup, 'battering ram' for Bears

Running back Michael Bush could certainly be an every-down back, proving it by running for 839 yards in the final ten games with the Oakland Raiders last season. The Chicago Bears were sold on Bush's ability, signing him to a four-year, $14 million contract in March as an insurance policy in case Matt Forte's contract stalemate lingered into the season.
Forte was signed a multiyear deal, which means that Bush will be used as a complementary back. At 6-foot-1 and 245 pounds, Bush can expect to do a lot of the dirty work, a role he's not exactly thrilled about filling.
"That's the role I've been stuck with because of my size. But if that's what I have to do, that's what I have to do," Bush said, via the Chicago Tribune. "No one likes to be a battering ram. It just happens that way."
Over the last two seasons, Bush has been a pretty solid runner near the goal line, scoring 13 touchdowns on 30 rushing attempts. Over the same stretch, Forte is 1-for-15, which could lead to a Bears backfield in which Forte gets the yards while Bush gets the points.

So he came here knowing there was someone in front of him that is traditionally pretty healthy and if not elite just on the outside, and left a place where the starter is always hurt and is mostly a bust, and skipped over all the teams that he could of started for hopeing for a bigger role? Color me stunned at his lack of foresight.

Now he will get plenty of touches, but if he wanted a bigger role then he had in Oak, he is either not very bright or took really bad advise.

No kidding, he had a better chance of wrestling legarrette blount's job away, or go to the Colts. It's irrelevant, tho, and better for the team than him i guess

Hell ya he did, Blount might not even make the team out there. He could have went to Washington also. There are a number of teams that could have used him. Det was another, or GB(not sure either would have signed him though). A bunch of teams needed a stud RB, and he chose Chicago; makes you wonder if we didn't grossely overpay compared to those that we were competing against.

But as Lovie said, it's not about 1 player. And as the Rock always said:

Yeah, I thought he was copping a little "attitude" in that interview too. I can understand the guy not wanting to be just some teams "donk" but when you're 6'1" 245lbs, built like a small tank, and have a great history of scoring from the goaline and getting tough yards that's how you're gonna be used at least part of the time.

He needs to look at Bears game vids from 2011. MB III did more than just run goaline and 3rd and short plays and he gained some nice yardage on some of them. If you're averaging 4.0 ypc and 25% of your carries are one and two yard runs you must be gaining some pretty significant yardage on the other 75% in order to hit that average.

He won't be used in that way only. He'll get his share of touches in the normal way just like Forte but he does need to realize that just like in Oakland he's the #2 back. If he came here thinking Forte wouldn't sign and he's be the big kahuna then he came for the wrong reasons. He needs to pull his head out of his ass and look around him and the opportunity he'll have. A $14 mil deal for a #2 RB who'll get 12-15 touches a game is nothing to sneeze at.

I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

Not to mention dude can catch the ball, too. With all the weapons we have on offense, throwing a swing pass his way could be more damaging than him running up the middle...

Bush will be a good breather to keep Forte out of that 350-400 touch range. And we don't have to change the offensive calling w/him b/c he can catch. We'll be a devistating O this year if the line holds up; which I'm beggining to question since they think brining in another guy w/a bad back/knee is a good idea.

Really? I'm a big fan of little to none; but if you're into the 70's style more power to ya.
