He's all speed/agility now. But so far it sounds like he's often tossed around like a rag doll, even by our bench oline players. He is going to have to upgrade his game quickly, and that he'll do that.

there's not a "quick fix" to getting an NFL body. I think he'll need to spend a year in the weight room taking it to another level. NFL level.

All I can think of, is that the Bears see incredible potential, in a guy who can contribute well now (and he will), but nonetheless, will get a whole heck of a lot better in a year or so.

I just expect a lot more out of a 19 pick then 30% rotational player(lovie was quoted that is where Shea is right now). Again Ill wait until a few games in to see him, but it screams reach when you here these things.

They said after the draft he could be a good special teams guy, too. What more do you want? Sheesh. lol

I want him pushing to start midway through the year, and if not then next year. I don't want the 19th pick being a ST's guy Papa, guess I have high expectations :) for 1st rounders.

I completely agree. I hope you caught the sarcasm in my previous post. lol Definitely don't want my 1st rounder playing on special teams.

I'm all in on the guy, but I still say, if it would have been ME in the draft room and I was the GM, I still would have been pulling my hair out to decide between Reiff (Need) and DeCastro (Talent). I really think if that were the case, DeCastro would be wearing a "C" on his helmet right now. But that's all water under the bridge and like I said, I'm on board with McLelland as our new D-Stud. Hope it works out that way.

I too wanted DeCastro but I figure Emery came to the same conclusion as many of us. That we would have a glut of OG's and that there was a desperate need for a DE. I'm ok w/Shea but I'm w/Ric that we need him to develop quickly and add value. If his football IQ is as high as they say I can see Shea coming on later in the season.

If Gibson and Wootton step up their game and have fantastic 3rd DE seasons I'd be fine with McClellin coming along slower. I think he can develop into a force but as long as we're getting pressure, I don't care where it comes from. I'd love to have Peppers, Izzy, McC, Wootton, and Gibson all being forces on the edge. Then add Melton, Paea, Toe, and Price (hell even Collins if he earns a spot) all terrorizing the inside. I think we have the potential to have a very, very deep DL that could be scary to play. If they can live up to their potential we could be straight terrorizing QB's next year with our front four. Especially if the offense can sustain drives and give our guys lots of rest, wow we could be a beast of a team.

Emery wanted to sign MWill, after that he wanted Mincey and a few others. He wasn't able to sign them so it was clear we are going to draft a DE...
...a DE that would end up being nothing more than a rotational guy in his Rookie and maybe his 2nd year.

Jones or Mercilus would not be something different

Emery seems like a pretty smart talent evaluator. Marinelli certainly has a lot of experience and wisdom regarding dline personnel. Consequently, I've gotta believe they see something VERY special in Shea. I think he brings something to the table for THIS season, and probably will be a key building block for beyond that.

It's a smart way to build a team. It's not always about instant gratification. You have one eye on the present, but also some vision for the future.
