Look what tice did with our o-line, with all of the switches in the preseason and no offseason to get them competent. Look at how the D was until Cutler was hurt. They were DOMINATING everyone. KC, OAK, SEA and DEN had no realistic shot against the team with Cutler as QB. It was obvious that Cutler and Tice were making an impact on Martz at that point, and had things worked out, they likely would've had a better shot at beating, if not getting the deed done, against the Pack.
Come on, Tice has done Jack with our OL, 2 years ago we lead the league in sacks and Jay was a punching bag of the NFL. As for Rod he could blows as a HC and when we picked him up he didn't do crap with our DL other than improve it by 1.5 sacks his first year with the bears. Martz got scapegoated out of chicago because numbnutz Angelo lacked the ability to get a pass happy OC a legit wr for the franchise qb. If I recall how many bear fans jumped on the Haine bandwagon only to get a taste of reality. Now that Jay goes down for the season MR I almost beat the packers in the NFC championship game steps in and looks like a complete fool last year as the back up qb. Funny how Bill Belicheck can turn Matt Cassels into a 11 game winner when Brady goes down but Hanie goes 0-5. Until Lovie and his buddies goes and the GM can bring in his own people I think we improve a bit but not enought to take the Packers and I don't think or Defense can stop that offense.

Cutler, Bates & Tice will be an incredible combination with the offensive play scheme and play calling. Tice will be in his 3rd year with this oline and I believe we'll be solid there. Just sit back and watch the fireworks on offense this year because you're going to see something we haven't seen in the 50+ years I've been a fan.

Marinelli is an older coach that I have a deep respect for. Guys like Peppers, Urlacher, Peanut and Briggs would die for this guy. Clearly they believe he is one hell of a D coach. I do too.

Lovie was greener than a gourd when he came here. Zero HC experience. It's been one heck of a bumpy ride as he climbed the learning curve. He's made a lot of mistakes, but he's learned from them. By now, I think he's over that learning curve and can be a rock solid head coach for us. Frankly, I believe he was given crap talent under Jerry Angelo (with some notable exceptions).

This is clearly the best talent we've had since the mid 80's. You can't compare this team with the 0-16 Detroit. Well you can. But you might as well compare us to a volleyball team then. The 2 have about THAT much in common.

And the 2011 Eagles? They really don't have any comparables to this team either. None really.

One other thing. This team has more "quality" depth than I've seen in many years. Training camp actually has some drama and meaning this year due to this fact. That can have a huge impact upon a Super Bowl run this year. Injuries happen. We actually have some decent #2's in place for when that happens. Not too many teams have this luxury.

So here's the deal. I'm gonna sit back and enjoy watching one of the best Bears teams of the past half-century that I've been rooting for these guys. I'm gonna savor every heartbeat and every snap.

It's a GREAT year to be a Chicago Bears fan!
I think the bears window is long gone but back in 2005-2006 we had a stacked team and the D and special teams was carrying this team but when Angelo Let Berrian, Moose and Bradley go we lost our Offense. TJ got shipped to NY and we struggled real bad. We have a better QB and RB and one of the best DE in the league but this team is a lot older and I think we lost a step when Rivera left. Rivera in my opinion is a huge improvement over Rod or babich.

Training camp and preseason mean crap until the season starts and then the real hittting starts. I never follow either and I only judge the players on the field when the games count. As for the eagles I used them as an example of loading up and trading players away to build what was suppose to be an elite team only to have them fall on their face. I have seen this happen to good teams and teams that bring in studs only to have them turn in to duds when they play for a different team.

I will say I like what this GM is doing about addressing issued numbnutz neglected for a couple of years. I give him a lot of credit but I think he needs to get rid of lovie and bring in his own people.

The '05-'06 team was not a great all around team. Team had no QB and the Wrs really weren't that great. Solid sure but they don't compare to what we have now. Grossman and Orton were absolute duds at the most important position. Not even Orton's fault since he was just a rookie. You put Cutler on that '05-'06 team and we have at least 1 SB win.

You bring up some good points. There have been a lot of mistakes spanning decades. Being a Bears fan involves a lot of pain and lost seasons. I had just about given up hope until this past off-season. I really like the moves the organization made. George McCaskey is an upgrade as Chairman. Emery seems to have a clue about talent. Lovie WILL be gone if he doesn't produce something special this season. Emery won't bat an eye before letting Lovie go, if he can't win big this season. If Lovie does show that he's now a solid HC when given better talent to work with, then he'll stay. Heck, I can't complain about that.

You are 100% right about training camp not meaning crap as far as how our season will go. But I do enjoy it every year, and get excited about seeing Bears football come back to life again for another season. Life is good again

I like what the new GM is doing and the packerfans I work with are sad to see Angelo go. I am still worried about the OL and the health of Jay. He is a stud qb but I almost worry that the last 3 years in chicago may have ruined him a bit with the beating he has taken and lack of a supporting cast around him. He pretty much had forte as his only legit weapon.

Good article, but hope he is wrong about Shea not ever amounting to more than just a solid player. I'd like to see someone that worries opponents on both ends. All I can say about that is I hope he is wrong. He said some good things about the WR's and Cutler. I think everyone knows that Cutler is a good QB, and I think most of us see the WR potential in the same way.

2005 or 2006 teams not great all around? We were ranked #1 in 2005 and #2 in 2006 in defense. We had a stacked defense and we didn't have to blizt to put pressure on opposing teams. We had one of the elite special teams in 2006 with hester and Robbie Gould. Our offense was not that bad even under Ron Turner calling the plays.

He's just guessing about Shea because at this early point nobody (least of all Kiper) knows how good he'll ultimately be.
