For me it's lack of goal line punch. Plus I grew sick of McKie's ass when he was around. Clutts can block a lot better than Adams and it's nice to have a actual FB on the team which I still think would be a viable position esp. with the 1-2 punch we have in Forte/Bush or picking up a blitzer for Jay.
Hell give him the ball once or twice inside the 2yd line. Might be a nice change up.

He'll be used as more than just a battering ram. He can catch and he's a pretty nifty open field runner for a power back. He can make guys miss. It's camp and Forte missed the OTA's so they're bringing him up to speed. Once the offense is set he'll have his role but there shouldn't be any doubt in his mind that he is and will be the goaline back. He's good at it.
I don't think Emery wanted to go as high as he had to for Bush which why we didn't sign him right after his first trip to town. But when we couldn't get Forte committed I think he felt he had no choice. We needed a starting caliber back to pair with Bell in the event that Forte wouldn't play or we traded him no matter how unlikely either of those events may have been.
The smart move was that he got a back who could do what Forte could not so that if we did get a deal done with Matt we had a perfect compliment to pair with him. So now we have three RB's who have all been successful, productive starters. Nice spot to be in although I think baiting a trade hook with Bell isn't a bad idea if we can get a mid round pick or a young vet where we need some depth for him.
Allen showed some flashed of being a decent Warrick Dunn "scat back" but not enough to depend on as far as a guy who could play for you productively week after week. He's a pretty lightweight back. Unga is a total wild card as far as NFL ability goes. He was on IR as a rookie then left camp for undisclosed personal reasons last year. True he showed some power on a couple of runs and he can catch too but you couldn't depend enough on him yet to even pencil him in for a roster spot let alone think he'd make the RB rotation.
The nice thing about Unga is that he still has PS eligibility and I think Allen may have as well. I was very surprised they ever brought Unga back after he walked away last year so they must see something special in him. We're really only stuck with Bush for two years. He'll be 30 by then, we will have paid him his $7 mil in guarantees and we actually save cap $$$ by letting him go. Before two years no. If Unga has the potential to be another Bush they may find a way to keep him around for two more years. With Allen it's probably between he and Booker. Both that 3rd down scat back type.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

As a totally hypothetical question, sure, I'd be down for trading Bush away if there was something worthwhile given in return (2nd or 3rd round pick or a guy who could come in and start on the offensive line). However, if given the choice between keeping Bush or trading him, I'd not give trading him away a second thought before seeing just how deadly the Bush/Forte tandem can be. I fully expect our RBs to be the envy of the NFC this season. I think Matt's big play explosiveness combined with MB's ability to drive in a TD or push for a 1st down will leave us in MANY desirable situations in 2012. I'm still all in. I think it's our year. If this Bears team can stay healthy, the sky truly is the limit....and the running game will be a MASSIVE part of our success.
The only team I can think of who may have a better duo of RBs than us is the Texans. Foster/Tate ain't no joke....but Forte/Bush ain't nuthin' ta f wit either. Man, what an exciting off season it was...
The days of Jerry Angelo screwing the Bears and Bears fans over are finally through! How many horrible decisions and moves has he made? How many failed draft picks and ridiculous free agent signings? Right now the Bears have possibly the best running back combo in the league, only others I can think that are close are Foster/Tate, Peterson/Gerhart and Williams/Stewart. This may be the year for the Bears to win a ring and if not this year the next, and I would much rather have another #1 on the team to backup Forte than someone the current caliber of Benson (an Angelo draft folly) or whomever else might have been signed or is still available. Bush can carry the load, the great thing about his current setup is he doesn't have to. I don't know if he realizes that being the backup preserves his body so that he can play in the league for many years! If Forte goes down again we have a decent one-two punch left in Bush/Bell or Bush/Booker. Last year's conundrum should show Bears fans that it is best to have Campbell/Bush (who could start on other teams) as backups.
