We have some real solid young RB talent now. Too much. A number of posts have lamented some of these guys not making the team, in spite of the fact they look great. It occurred to me that Bush has a hefty contract with us, and perhaps, if a team had a need for him (injury in camp type of thing) that we could let him go and keep one of our young talents (and save some big money too). Maybe pick up a decent extra draft pick for next year too.

JABF, it's one of the reasons I have been upset w/the Taylor/MBIII picks ups, We have had talent at the RB position for years behind Forte, and none ever get a chance to show it b/c we always over pay for said talent...which has also in the process offended the starter b/c his backups were getting more then him. But this year I think it's different, Bush really isn't just a back up but a 1b back w/Forte as 1a. What they might do is try and shop Allen or Bell for a late round pick instead of cutting them though.

Maybe after this year, when defenses slow him down worse than shadows, in the playoffs, but no. I like Bell, but dude's just not had a fair shot. MBIII, I still think was good, he just kinda cost us two games down the stretch (the one where he was lined up improperly and the Bronco/fumble game), but even then MBIII shoulda been splittin' reps with dude. If Forte goes down, it's RB by committee, in my book....

I like all our RBs. Only way I'd be willing to see Bush go, before the season starts, would be if some team went whacko and offered a 2nd rd pick. And I just can't imagine anyone do that. We're going to be giving teams a good shot in the shorts with that Forte/Bush tandem.

All I ask of Bush is to finally get us those TDs we need when we're at the fuggin' goal line. SRSLY, how long has it been since it's "Oh, we're at the 3, we're GOING to get in." Hell, I remember we lost to the Falcons in '09 on what, 4 straight attempts within the 2 to get in?

This is a league where you need 2 solid backs and having Bush as a bruising back is an upgrade over forte trying to pound the ball on 3rd and 1. The other backs we have are still not proven and in the big games they lack the experience to play. Bush is also proven that he can be a starter and take a series of plays vs playing every other down like some of our back ups have done in the past.

Agree with everyone else who said that this is a two back league. The Bears need both Forte and Bush as Bell is not good enough to be the backup who can pound the line on 3rd and short or goal line plays (which has been Forte's problem).

No way should we trade Bush unless he are getting a steal in return. Bell as our 3rd down back is also nice to have, but he is not good enough to step up and be number two.

If you think he is, ask yourself this. If Forte goes down, are you confident enough in Bell that he can get the job done for a few weeks? If the answer is no, then you know the answer to the "should we trade Bush" question.

Two places you need a competent backup/second string are QB and RB. For the first time that I can ever remember the Bears have both this coming year.

Benj, right now I think Bell is in a fight for the 3rd back w/Allen; and I said all offseason he fumbles to much; which he did again on the first or 2nd day of practice.
But I don't think Unga was ever given a real shot which is disappointing b/c I think he could have been that 2nd back that Bush is and Allen/Bell could have been a great 3rd down/change of pace backup...and it would have been much less money. It's still a nice insurance policy to have(Bush) and we won't know if it was necessary until Unga gets a shot either here or on another team so it's really moot altogether. But as of right now I'd take Forte/Bush over just about anyone elses RB's in the league and that would be hard to trade away.

We don't really save any money because he got a $4 mil signing bonus and we'd end up eating that both monetarily and cap wise. As it stands his 2012 cap hit is only $2 mil, a pretty fair bargain for a back of his stature, but if we were to trade him that signing bonus rolls up and his 2012 cap hit would then be $4 mil.

His contract also guarantees his 2012 and 2013 salaries which aren't huge so he's really a pretty good bargain for two years where he only costs us $5.55 ($2.775 avg. per year) mil against cap. If we cut of trade him I don't see it happening until at least 2014 when it won't cost us cap wise to do it.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

Emery made it a point to sign him so we have one of the best R.B. tandems in the entire NFL. Why on earth would we trade that away?
