Seriously though, I want to see all this fantastic tape that Spencer apparently produced. I know he got to the second level well but I was very impressed with CWill's first real year at LG. He was a reach but he was also a first round pick, someone who I think was doing quite well at guard. I would have thought our OL to look like Webb/CWill/Garza/Louis/Carimi. I truly hope Spencer is better than CWill. I want the five best lineman out there, regardless of draft position/salary/whathaveyou. It'll be interesting to see how this unit performs under this new OC who actually knows their limits. Barring injury they'll actually be gelling together.. hope its impressive because if they perform well this team has zero weaknesses that really jump out at you. With a good-great OL the skies the limit.

I hear ya and agree with the conundrum.

On one hand, playing CW @ LG seems the move. He was darn good there last year and should be even better in his 2nd at the same position. The lineup you stated I agree would seem to be our "best 5" unless Spencer can duplicate what CW did last year as a LG.

Downside is that an injury to an OT would require moving CW there and therefore to shuffle 2 positions rather than just 1. And I doubt Tice is comfortable having an undrafted rookie (JB) responsible to be the primary backup OT no matter how goid he looks in TC and PS.

I don't see how they would relegate Cwill to the bench. He's a competitor and vied for the LT position. Now you put your best OG to the bench? Why would he want to resign? He could make more money as a LG somewhere else. The swing tackle is important but as was said putting your BEST 5 out there and gelling is the best bet.

Spencer should compete w/Louis who has the most to show as far as OG. Spencer played at RG and the whole line minus Carimi is consistent. No more mass jumbling around
Arguing on the internet is like winning the special olympics, even if you win your still messed up.

I can't disagree with anything you wrote but hasn't Tice already publicly said the the loser of the LT competition would become the swing tackle?

I believe so. He'd either have to walk that back or CW isn't starting anywhere on the OL this year (at least early in the season).

I'm with Soul. Would be straight up foolish to get rid of an experienced T/G like CWill given what is on the line this season. I mean what could the Bears really net in a trade fro CWill? Keep the guy and let him walk after this year if he is no longer in the plans. Now is not the time to be dumping veteran depth.

Also, looks like Brandon and Brown could be legitimate talent rather than just a feel good story or camp overachievers. So that's exciting to hear that these younger guys are pushing for active roster spots.

C.Will is very young for an experienced lineman (26 years old). How do you go from being last year's best lineman to now we're talking about letting the guy go? I think they just don't want to pay him.

It will be interesting to see if Emery values the offensive line in general. I was willing to give him a pass when we didn't draft a lineman this year. I figure they know what they're doing. But now we have UFA rookie James Brown being touted as "The Answer" and C.Will getting shuffled out the door. Brown may be great or he could be the 2nd coming of Omyale. We don't know yet.

Talk is cheap. I'm going to watch what the Bears actually DO here.

Tice WANTS Webb to be LT, CW was so much better, they had to stop competition to save face. Thats the next newspaper report. LOL. I think its unfair to lose your starting potition to push someone else. Would CW want to come back next year after being treated this way? Or has he lost it, and not good at G anymore?

He can't even win the LT spot. So yes he is expendable now.

It's a head scratcher for me BBPB. Any player who is the best in a unit during the season, and then loses his starting job in the off season, is a head scratcher to me. He's young, talented and consistent at LG. So you pull him from that position, and put him at LT saying "it will be a fair competition" but only give him a couple of starts during the first week of training camp. Then you call the competition off. Then there's talk of not keeping you at all in the oline unit.

I'm not the brightest guy. I'll admit that. But this one really doesn't make sense. Unless. Unless it is money driven. Then I "get it" that they don't want to give him the big payday when his contract ends this season.

According to a Brad Briggs Webb is starting LT for now but hasn't been blown away by his play so far and he must improve....just how bad was CWill that Webb is tearing him up but not impressing Tice?

ZZ says Tice said if one backup OL has a great game they they could reevaluate the position, apparently he's not quite expendible yet...and Webb might be next year.
