Even though C.Will had some experience at LT, it wasn't much. Switching olinmen around at the NFL level is a "big deal" and not as simple as many would believe. Two totally different positions. C.Will was finally settling down and looking rock solid at guard. Why screw with that? He could anchor that slot for many years, and it's "one problem solved" out of the 5 positions on the oline.

If they truly (honestly) thought he'd be able to switch to working in space again, at LT, then give the man a full training camp to adjust. All I know about C.Will was that he is a hard working class act who it sounds like busted his butt this off season. And was coming off a really really solid year.

Webb? We just heard about him not showing up to work with the oline much in the off season. And of course we always hear about his potential.

So, being the thick-headed person I am, what I am reading is that he not happy with either OT, but they didn't go with an OT because he was "fine" with the OL.

ok, someone help me out here. Is Tice on meds or what?

So you pull him from that position, and put him at LT saying "it will be a fair competition" but only give him a couple of starts during the first week of training camp. Then you call the competition off. Then there's talk of not keeping you at all in the oline unit.

I'm not the brightest guy. I'll admit that. But this one really doesn't make sense. Unless. Unless it is money driven. Then I "get it" that they don't want to give him the big payday when his contract ends this season.
I agree its starting to get even more confusing with each day. He was very effective at LG last season and good enough to start all year until the injury.

Now, he was thrown into a competition for the LT spot and appears he didn't impress at all and will ride the bench as the swing T rather than be given a shot at reclaiming the LG spot.

As far as the whole LT competition goes, this just affirms what many of us have been saying for some time. He's just not a very good LT and never had a chance to knock Webb out of the starting lineup because he isn't an upgrade at all.

I know people don't want to hear that but its obvious that webb is the best LT on the roster at this time.

BBPB, many believe that he wasn't a great LT; unfortunately from the sounds of it neither is Webb. It's aposition that NEEDS improvement if these guys cannot be an anchor. Maybe that's why they were interested in bringing in a beatdown Otah b/c neither guy is stepping up; but one is definately kneeling down.

Well we don't need a great LT, we just need a solid one. And many on this board have been talking a lot of trash about how Webb was going to lose this battle to CWill. The best man has won this. And that's good for the team. If Webb regressed or showed no improvement from last season, then CWill would have surely taking the LT spot this early in camp. And this is good news for Bears fans, not bad news. If Webb got beat out by CWill then it would bring into serious question whether he should even be on the active roster. So I'm personally excited about these great news involving Webb.

Is there any reports if Cwills injury to his hand is fully healed? Might be a factor in all this.

We still could end up being fine with this oline. There are huge unknowns, but they could still pan out on the good side.

    1. Webb has to improve. Tice's article is pretty clear about this.

    2. Carimi needs to be healthy (and that knee surgery to stabilize his knee problems needs to be effective. Otherwise it will be a chronic knee issue).

    3. We need one or more of the young/green tackles on our roster to develop into solid players (Brown or whomever).

    4. C.Will needs to be a solid swing tackle. He stands a good chance of getting playing time at one of the tackle positions. He's a smart player who can probably step in at LT or RT and do a serviceable job.

I agree with BBPB that we don't need a great oline. But we do need a decent/solid one. There is a difference. I'm happy if we just have "average" for this season. It's been too long since we've even had an average oline.

Average is all we need my friend. This team will go as far as Cutler's arm can take it.

BBPB right now from the sounds of Tice he's not impressed w/Webb...does that make him solid, average or less? I would guess less.

How about we wait until the season actually starts before passing judgement on our players? Way too much premature judging of our players taking place before one meaningful game has been played. And its making a lot of people look like assholes because last season is not this season.

One thing that is for sure is that CWill is not an upgrade at LT.
