I'm not a fan of switching players positions unless the move is intended to be permanent. We've done this more than a few times and it doesn't do anyone any justice. IMO, Chris Williams, Izzy, etc. have been stunted a bit by transitions that are far less dramatic than from DE > MLB.

The move from Safety (guy who calls the coverages) to MLB (guy who calls the defenses) is far less of a risk. Also, I'm not sure that Shea has the lateral or vertical speed for any of the LB positions, much less MLB.

We drafted Shea to play DE. It's the position he's played his entire collegiate career, and damn well might I add. The level of sheer myopic ignorance that fans look at these rookies with is just astounding. People read a few stories about a guy who hasn't even played a fucking game yet having growing pains in his first training camp and start shitting themselves. It's simply stupid. There's no better word for that shit -- just stupid.

Converting a freakishly athletic roverback who played his entire college career standing up in the middle of the field ten yards behind the LOS to MLB is a far cry from giving up on a guy with immense potential and experience with his hand in the dirt to a MLB.

Izzy has done wonders between the DE and DT position. On defense moving players around is a lower risk higher reward. Yes there are failures but something like Shea or should i say someone like him who fits a 3-4 scheme being dumped into a 7 man front could benefit a move like this. In a 3-4 scheme where is Shea placed? OLB baby!!! So naturally you could transition him into a LB easily. Yes he did play DE too but ill say this, Emerys intentions of drafting him were to move him into the LB field not the front four!

Sir im gonna have to ask you take a step back and look, he played more then just DE, he filled into a OLB as well. Watch this video and watch him line up he plays out side and is able to drop back in and out of coverage as a OLB/DE hybrid

Shea's experience as a LB is tantamount to Clay Matthews with the Packers. He played rush LB sparingly. Clay may be a great 3-4 OLB, but there's not a chance he could hang in a 4-3 D in the middle of the field. It's an entirely position -- absolute night and day. Again, I repeat, this entire conversation is retarded.

I'd like to see them keep it simple for Shea and leave him to learn the DE position. He seems to be over-thinking everything already. He seems to be a bit overwhelmed already, when you read his comments about adjusting to his role. I think a move to another position would be damaging. We could end up screwing him up so he's no good for either position.
    Go Bears!

Not to put you to work or anything, but when has he ever said that. I spend time here every day reading nearly everything that is written about the Bears, and I've never seen that. It's possible I missed it, but in my mind it's just as possible that you are projecting your desires onto Emery in order to make your point.

And for the record, MLB calls plays, unlike any OLB in a 3-4 scheme (which we have never run and won't be running this year).

There are several other player far better suited (Briggs, Roach, DeCicco) to sliding over to MLB if need be than a rookie who is struggling to play the position (non MLB) he has all of his career.

There was a lot of combine footage and talked about on the nfl network during work hours for most that I recorded via dvr, because green bay was loving this kid. I wish the best for this team but were 30 min till our debut so I'm gonna leave it with this.... Bear downs gentlemen may we have a healthy great show from these guys!!!!

Not sure, but Briggs - Roach - Hayes doesn't sound that bad. Then we have some youngster who may just need the chance.

Only will be concerned when the beast starts to miss RS games
