I posted my thoughts about last night's first look in another thread, but I'll post them up here as well.
1. Jason Campbell is VERY rusty.
2. Shea McLellin is going to get to the QB. Great pick by Emery.
3. Alshon is going to be amazing playing opposite Brandon Marshall, with Earl in the slot.
4. Our offensive line is better than last year.
5. WE NEED JAY, MATT, JULIUS AND LACH TO REMAIN HEALTHY! They were all sorely missed last night.
6. The Bears are going to be a quick strike football team in 2012. Lots of short/intermediate length pass plays.
7. We have some playmakers on defense who aren't household names (which is the case every year).
8. Our WR corp is FANTASTIC. Seriously, I wish we could carry 7 or 8 of these kids.
9. We don't have as much depth on special teams as I would like. Field position was god awful last night.
10. Podlesh and Gould are money, but what else is new?
Last night's game was a scrimmage, and in no way, shape or form should anyone use it as a measuring stick for how this Bears team will perform in 2012. I saw good things last night, and I saw bad things as well. So it goes EVERY year in preseason. What I saw last night was promise in certain areas.
1. Our defensive line. These guys are good.....really good. They're going to give QBs fits with Julius, Shea and Corey all able to generate massive pressure. This is what Lovie's D is built around, guys....pressure pressure pressure. That pressure creates mistakes, and mistakes are good. We're gonna see LOTS of INTs this year. I can't wait.
2. Our offensive line. It's work in progress, as usual. At least they don't look as inept as they did this time last year. J'Marcus, in particular, needs to play into the 4th quarter of EVERY preseason game. He looks slightly improved. Not by much so far, but in game experience is invaluable for him. Keep him in as much as humanly possible. Carimi is gonna be fine. That's pretty much all I have to say about the kid. Really looking forward to him staying healthy this season. All of our guys on the line need as many game reps as possible before the Colts game in week 1. I still believe these fellas can be serviceable, and that's really all we need them to be.
This team is gonna be good....period.
