I've been quiet since the game because the first pre-season game is relatively meaningless. However, it DOES have greater meaning when previously problems are shown to be continuing.
In my opinion, LT is far from our only problem. Mike Ticw and Lovie Smoth have been trying to will some of these guys good for years now, and it only supports what I have been suggesting for years, that the Oline problems were not all on Angelo. These coaches continue to over evaluate the talent we have.
In my opinion, we only have two legitimate NFL caliber O-linemen on this team, Garza and Carimi, and even those two represent one guy that's about at the end and one that hasn't gotten ther yet.
Chris Williams COULD get there, but I'm beginning to doubt it. Webb? No. Louis? The coaches and many fans seem to see something in this kid, but I don't see more than a back-up. Spencer is a "never was good enough" Center at Seattle, and is not even a good starting guard. He'll do in a pinch, but he will never be a solid Starter at this level. Edwin Williams? Please.
Tell me any of these guys that would be an unquestioned starter on ANY winning team?
Garza has one good year left, maybe two, which leaves us with one legit starter to grow with, Carimi.

4D -- well unfortunately you have verbalized (writingized?!) what a lot of us may be feeling but don't want to either admit to yet or are hoping will never materialize. There is still time for some of these guys to step up. Webb has the tools, but more and more I'm starting to think the toolshed is locked. Williams I think actually can be a good contributor. Perhaps at LT or perhaps at G. The problem is that as you say, Tice has a vision and he is not going to let the facts or performance get in his way. Williams may or may not ever get the opportunity to play at G here again and if he doesn't, he may get let go based on his LT performance. That would be a shame as he really does seem to be able to be a very good G.
I am more and more dissappointed with Tice. I don't know. Maybe it's just me. Is everyone still 100% behind him and I am just bailing too fast or is he making anyone else uncomfortable. And when I get uncomfortable with his handling of the OL, it makes me question his OC ability. Someone tell me that I'm off in the weeds....

I wish I could tell you you're off in the weeds, but I'm not sure that you are brother. It is still early, but I obviously have my reservations. Here's hoping everything comes together in the next couple of weeks.
The Greatest form of revenge is MASSIVE success.

Before we go into code red panic mode, let's give it at least until week 3 PS
That will be our first simulated game (or half) and before we start bashing Tice let's give him a chance as well
This was ps game one, and what it will do is give them film to go over, let these guys review the film see what they need to change
(Tice as well can review himself and adjust play calling/down distance situations)
I'm with soul here I want to see the same guys as last year because we didn't upgrade and they werent horrible even without Carimi up until the ship capsized due to a LOT of injuries
If we hit week 3 PS and still look like crap then we can resumed code red status
So let's relax and see what week 2 and 3 have in store for us

I guess the reason I'm not panicked as of yet is because I didn't come into this preseason with any preconceived notions that this offensive line would be better. Obviously, we could have picked Riley Reiff or David DeCastro over Shea McClellin, and while I think McClellin is going to be an integral part of this defense, it's just like I said before in another thread - we could have waited on getting another DE in favor of upgrading our offensive line through the draft. Reiff has the material to be a stellar OT in the NFL, perhaps even at LT. He went to a school in the University of Iowa that is noted for producing great offensive linemen. I think he would be more serviceable at LT in his rookie season than Webb is right now. As far as DeCastro is concerned, if we didn't draft Reiff, we could have had him and worked out Chris Williams at the left tackle spot alongside Webb. Provided that CWill wins the LT position, as it looks like the competition has once again heated up, you would have three former first round picks on the line who all have great potential to be very good. Unfortunately, Reiff was drafted by division rival Detroit and will be a rock in their offensive line for many years to come if he lives up to his potential, while Pittsburgh really bulked up their offensive line by drafting both DeCastro and Adams in the first two rounds.

Speaking of Adams (whom i had once hoped might be an LT option for us before he flopped at the Combine), he was playing some LT in the 2nd string vs. the Eagles a few days ago. He got beat like a drum and a sack-fumble resulted.... while Pittsburgh really bulked up their offensive line by drafting both DeCastro and Adams in the first two rounds.
