    Our o-line situation

I'm wondering if we will see any changes come a week from tomorrow

I don't want this to turn into another Webb bashing thread because I didn't think he played that bad

I was more concerned with spencer at lg I would like to see CWill back in that spot and let brown play our swing tackle, obviously injuries would probably mean CWill would take the tackle job if Brown isn't ready

    Thoughts?

    Three thoughts.

One, Carimi. I know he got a little beat up early in the game, but he was up against Dumervil. You know the guy ranked #68 on the top 100? For a guy with 1 preseason, 1 and 1/8th games, and 1 training camp, in that order under his belt, I think Carimi did just fine. I'm not at all worried about him.

    Two

To be honest, after last season I kind of expected Spencer to do better at guard. However, last year Spencer was at RIGHT Guard, this year, LEFT Guard. Being a lefty, I experience every day how things designed for right handed people don't work as easily for me. Having to Change the footwork, hand usage and blocking angles is doable, but getting it to be INSTINCT takes time and repetitions. Until then Spencer probably has to think (just a little) about what he is doing, and how it has to be done. It only takes a fraction of a second, but at the pro level that is enough to give the other guy the edge.

    Three

It's only the first game of the preseason, these things will improve.

This is really the one thing that tee's me off about Tice, Louis/Spencer were both decent at RG/LG respecitvely last year, why change them up now? He's more worried about fixing what is working then fixing what isn't(LT/RT).

Tices biggest problem imo is his inablity to let these guys stay doing 1 thing for more then 1 year.

Great post. I totally agree. Regarding Spencer, I thought he was solid at RG last season. He had power. He had speed (great pulling guard). But at LG he looks lost. BUT, I also agree with your comment "It's only the first game of the preseason, these things will improve."

Carimi is the real deal. But he did get bulled around a bit. He'll get better too.

Ric, you hit the nail on the head. I get sick over this. It's like at work, when one guy is screwed up so they switch guys around to cover up for the bad employee - and it just results in everyone looking like crap. I hate it.

The Bears are betting our 2012 season on the oline being "OK" enough with the people Emery left them with. This is the hand that Emery has dealt them. Tice is trying to make chicken salad out of chicken poop.

Louis and Spencer were both at RG last year. Louis started and then Spencer took over when Louis moved to RT. CWill started the first 9 games at LG in 2011 and EWill replaced him after he got injured. So moving to LG is a first for Spencer.

My take on it is a lot like your Ric and Xaos mentioned the same basic thought above. CWill is a left side player not a right side player. He struggles when asked to play RT or RG yet he's done well at LG and if given half a chance I think he could play at least journeyman level ball at LT. He's built to play the left side and it is a different set of responsibilities than the right side especially for a team that runs right a lot as the Bears do and a QB who will roll out to his right.

Spencer was an OC who made a decent transition to RG and probably should be left there to backup Louis who may or may not finally put it all together and play the way he capable of all year. Shifting him over to the left side after he's spent a year doing the same on the right side only makes sense if you don't plan to start him there but rather make him you're backup/utility interior lineman. The inside version of a swing tackle if you're only gonna suit 7 OLineman on Sunday.

Like I've been posting let Web have LT and let the chips fall where they may. Keep CWill at LG with Louis and Spencer competing for RG. At least this way no one is playing out of position and we have only one possible weak spot as opposed to two or more. Carimi and Garza are the only two guys I trust to get the job done 100% and maybe CWill at 80% as long as we play him at LG and nowhere else.

Let's get a grip on reality guys. It's pretty obvious by now that neither CWill or Webb are the LT of the future. The position was wide open and neither jumped up and grabbed the brass ring yet they've had an entire offseason to prepare for it. It's just not gonna happen with either of them. They aren't and never will be difference makers at LT but at least CWill is a fair to middlin' LG. Webb is fair to nothin' if he can't hold down LT.

I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

I'm beginning to think another teams final cut will be better than anyone we have at LT.
