I am just trying to find a silver lining somewhere. I'm hoping that a fierce pass rush might mitigate the need for an Urlacher level LB at least until he gets better.
You are 100% right. I wasn't meaning you were wrong. Just that the LB's are vital to our defense, being great. More so than on many defenses. We are truly blessed to have had great LB's. Some of the best.

Henry, thanks for posting the article on Brian. It sounds like they can't keep the knee from swelling and pain when he practices. Brian has that mindset that he "hopes" he can play by the regular season, and he's a warrior who will try. I believe that. But if the knee just doesn't hold up to practice stress, I don't know if it will be any better with real game stress.

Urlacher gave the knee most of the off-season to rest and it didn't heal. Due to that fact, I'm not too optimistic the next 2 or 3 weeks will heal it. I'm like Brian, I "hope" it gets better. Kind of like that old Jessie Jackson saying "keep hope alive"

    Trestman - Kromer - Tucker - DeCamillis

I'm looking forward to seeing these guys coach. Hope they're good.

I'm guardedly optimistic that BU will play and play well once RS begins. He seemed pretty firm on that in his interview. Yeah, he's a gamer and it may be bravado but I'm gonna take him at his word. It sounds like he hit it too hard early in TC and it got sore and swollen quickly. Now he's backed off completely to let it settle down.

I may be drinking the rose colored KoolAid, I admit, but I'm still believing that if he rests it this PS as he said, he'll be "good enough" by opening day. Heck, if he misses till 9/13 that's ok too. We can beat Indy with Roach or DeCicco back there.

How he holds up thru all season's wear and tear is another matter though. We do have an early bye and 3 of our 5 first games are against shit teams. Maybe if he sits a couple of those or plays sparingly he can be feeling pretty good by week 7 and can make it thru the season alright.

I'm a little bummed but still hopeful--trying to see how we can buy him max recoup and recovery time.

Same from my end. I wasn't saying you were wrong either. I think pretty much on the same page. Just a lot of facets to the problem

I try to stay positive but this scares/infuriates me

Nobody will replace BU if he isnt able to play at full potential but we weren't able to come up with a backup plan

What's done is done I know but if anything was known in house why the hell wasn't Dona Hightower our first pick (or other lb)

Not saying i dont like Shea but MLB trumps a situational pass rusher

Not sure roach is the answer either for the Lovie 2 defense

If he can't get 100% It would be devastating and i almost hope he doesn't play week 1 RS, if we can't beat Indy without him we could have bigger problems

Last I watched, Indy was beating St. Louis 28-3 well into the fourth quarter, with Andrew Luck absolutely carving up the Rams' defense. I don't know what our defense is going to be like this season, but I think it's pretty safe to say that it won't be as good without Brian Urlacher in the games if he was to have to miss significant playing time. Urlacher is, as I said earlier in either this thread or another one, the heart of not only this team, but this defense, and how he does usually determines the direction this team is going to take through out the course of the year. That being said, I tend to agree with houston that if this defensive line with Peppers, McClellin, and Wootten can get pressure on opposing quarterbacks, that will mitigate the effects that not having our All-Pro MLB will have, if Urlacher turns out to not be able to play for some reason. That being said, I doubt seriously that the Colts' offensive line is that good, so I see no reason why the Bears can't get pressure on him and thus help out the linebacking corps that way.

Guys, I'm still not sold as of yet that Urlacher isn't going to be able to play at the start of the year. Yeah, you may have to sub in for him occasionally, but if he seems confident that he's going to play in Week 1, who's going to argue with him? No one has a better working knowledge of Urlacher's body than Urlacher, and I think that ultimately, Lovie Smith will have to defer to him to see if he wants to go against the Colts.

With the exception of a really minor 'clean up' procedure done on the knee ( which he could come back from in a few weeks ) any real ('regular') surgery ends his career - how many 13yr veterans are willing to put themselves through the required rehab ?

So I hope we're all reading too much into this but ..........
What should you call any : Fumble , Hold , Interception , Three and out , or Sack ?

    A " F.H.I.T.S " ? or a J'Marcus ?

It's not like he has a torn ACL or something serious like that. He sprained his MCL, that's all. Now, I know that hurts, but taking some anti-inflammatory will help with the pain. I know I take Meloxicam, and my left knee feels good except for the popping acting it does whenever I go up or down inclines. That being said, I wouldn't be surprised to see Urlacher retire after this season is over and done with. His body has been through a lot since 2007.

The MCL + one other the PCL I think . You know sprains ,technically, are tears right, and really it doesn't matter ...cuz whatever it is - if it's putting too much hitch in his giddy-up ( whether it's too much pain, swelling or it has ruined his athleticism ) then it could end things. But like i said b4 hopefully we're reading too much into this.

I hope we're reading too much into this too. That being said, we need him in the worst way possible. He's the team's leader, the face of the franchise, and when he went down in 2009, our season died with him.

but back then, we weren't as deep and good as a whole team. It would be huge loss, but we still could make it. He won't miss the full season
