Thumbs down Bears' Paea in walking boot after injury

    By Vaughn McClure, Tribune reporter

    3:21 p.m. CDT, August 12, 2012
BOURBONNAIS -- Bears nose tackle Stephen Paea has a walking boot supporting his left leg after he sustained an injury midway through Saturday's practice.

Paea watched from the side Sunday as his teammates started individual drills. His status moving forward is unclear, but this could put a damper on what has been a superb camp for the former second-round pick from Oregon State.

Paea surpassed Matt Toeaina on the depth chart for the starting nose tackle spot with a strong start to camp. Although Paea has arthroscopic surgery on his right knee in January, those right knee issues seemed to be behind him.

With Paea out Sunday, Toeaina step back in with the first team.

Paea wasnt the only defensive starter out of action. Linebacker Brian Urlacher remained out with knee soreness. Urlacher refused to put a timetable on his return.

This team, after a season of injuries seems to be headed in that direction again.

Jeez.... I was hoping he would be healthy this year. I thought he could be a real contributor. Hopefully, this is not season ending, whatever it is.

Any update on Major Wright's hammy injury from the game on Thursday?

FWIW, I think lots of teams each year are "Super Bowl" quality teams in August - until the injuries hit. A key injury or two can take a team from Super Bowl ready, to just another team waiting for "next year" to be better.

Of course it depends upon WHO gets injured. On Green Bay if Aaron Rodgers goes down, that's key. With us it may be a Peppers or Urlacher (or last year it was Cutler/Forte). It just cripples a team. It makes me sick (seriously) to think of the great Bears teams over the last 50+ years, who looked like champions until injuries turned their season into crap.

    It's heartbreaking.

Ah fruitcakes and fucksicles, this crap is starting to really piss me off. We draft promising DLineman and we can't keep 'em healthy enough to play. When is THIS crap gonna end!

It could be. But didn't we read somewhere that one reason Idonije improved as a DE, was that they adjusted his weight quite a bit. If that's the case, he may not be at ideal weight for DT duty. I don't know this for a fact at all (I may be thinking of another player we moved to another position).

All the more reason for Wootton to come through.

And I know it's really early in the guys career , but what I've seen outta Paea so far says nothing much more than another Chris Zorich to me ... which = decent to sometimes good but never anything great.

The guy gets handled with regularity. Hope he proves me wrong.

( and I'm starting to take the " this guys having a great camp " stuff with a grain of salt now, cuz I ain't been seeing it translate on the field much ... with whoever they say it about )
What should you call any : Fumble , Hold , Interception , Three and out , or Sack ?

    A " F.H.I.T.S " ? or a J'Marcus ?
