I believe that was the plan all along last short offseason but after a few practices Cutler lobbied for Garza to be the C cause he felt more comfortable with him

btw Spencer in Seattle was consistently ranked one of the worst c in the league year in and year out

the oline is patchwork just got to stick with it and see who is can be developed and who needs to walk. Good news is allot of these guys are operating on one year deals so we arent stuck with trash long term like omyfail

If Emery tries to plug that hole in FA it's big $$$ if you want a top guy. If you saw the post I did of Jake Longs last contract you get an idea of what it will cost to get a guy like him. Ouch! Given these two factors I think we can all see why Tice is working so hard to make a half way decent LT out of Webb. The other options don't look good.

JA did do a pretty decent job of cobbling together a decent line out of FA's but he dropped the ball after that twice as far getting the help we needed. The first was when he fell asleep at the wheel and let the Broncos "leap frog" us for Clady and the second time was last summer when there was an entire herd of decent lineman to be had and he came away with zip. He let a few good pitches go by then swung and missed on two more. He whiffed big time!

After this season Emery will have his second big challenge as far as rebuilding that offense and it's probably gonna need to come from FA without somehow breaking the bank. Let's just hope a couple of these guys step up their play this year and make his job a little easier for him.
if an average lt like Duane Brown gets 54 mil contract Long will cost about 70 mil. The one I have trouble guessing worth is how much you think Bushrod will command in a new contract

E.Will is looking pretty solid as a backup to Garza. Garza is a decent starting center (smart, experienced). E.Will is a much better backup option at center than Spencer. I don't know what you do with Spencer. He's an expensive backup. Surely they won't start him this year (he's regressed).

I'm not saying this is MY pick, but that it looks like they may be the Bears starters when the dust settles. That would be a decent oline (for us anyway). None of these guys are standout players, but they are all decent enough to let us have a solid season.

C.Will is probably going to be our backup tackle. E.Will our backup center (he looks pretty good to me). Spencer could be a decent backup guard. So we'd have decent depth if we have injuries. Brown isn't ready for prime time NFL work yet. Maybe keep him on PS as a "project".

I can't believe the Bears would go with Spencer as a starter (anything) due to his play deteriorating this year. I'd rather see E.Will as our backup center than Spencer. I like Lance Louis over Spencer at RG. Louis is a guy on his way up, and Spencer just looks bad.
I think that pretty well nails it too. You have to look at who you have left on the bench when the dust settles to bail you out in the event that Webb or Rachal end up either getting hurt or getting their asses handed to them as starters. Having CWill and EWill in reserve give us two guys who can play the two positions on that left side or the right side and a backup to Garza at OC as well. It may not be exactly the way we'd like to see it go but it does make sense.

I believe Spencer is too expensive to keep as just a backup so if Rachal takes LG he'll be cut. They'll stick Ricky Henry back on the PS if he clears waivers along with Cory Brandon and that will give us some added depth if there are injuries along the line. We'll need to keep Brown on the 53 man roster though. We'd never get him through waivers in order to put him on the PS. Somebody would grab him. So that gives us one more reserve who could probably play either OG or RT in an emergency.

So that's my eight. The five you listed as starters with CWill, EWill and Brown in reserve.

I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

We'd be in good shape with that for this season. Better than last year. Then add a couple of upgrades next year, and we'd have one of our better olines in recent years.

One more thought. Because our starters are not lights-out great, it looks to me like we don't have a huge dropoff in talent if we have a few injuries this year. The backups are almost as good as the starters, and experienced. Injuries to the oline are almost a "given" so it's nice to know we don't lose that much in talent if a guy gets injured (I realize this is a "glass half full" thing to the max.......

Yeah, a fantastically mediocre bunch but at least there's some half way decent experience among them. That's not saying much but it's better than nothing at all.

In the "it could always be worse" file, we could be the Cards.

Their OL was terrible coming into the ps to begin with and they just lost their starting LT for the year to injury. They've got nothing behind.

Webb could do better if he lowered the price on his T-Shirts. $30 ????? I wouldn't buy a Butkus T-shirt for $30. Maybe $25. Webb? He'd have to pay me to wear it.

For only $20 he will sell you one pre-used with taco sauce stains on it.

Well if they fit his ass then there's a lot of cotton in those puppies. He should be giving them away just so it actually looks like he has some fans.
