1) Wilhite totally sucked, I agree. In fact, who do we keep as a 5th CB (I assume we will keep 5)? None of the Wilhite, Frey, McCoy trio have shown anything on D so far.
2) Spaeth adds little as a receiver, true. But he's needed as a blocker/pseudo-6th OL. This line is porous and needs help regularly. We saw what Cutler could do if he's given decent pass pro.
3) Summers has potential and is exciting to watch. He needs to add about 10lbs of bulk and improve his hands...quite a bit. A year on the PS would do him a lot of good. I could see him making the team next August and contributing, especially if Knox can't make a comeback. It's nice for once to have exciting young receivers in the pipeline.
4) If the NFL is dumb enough to field these replacement refs in the RS just to make a point, they will come to regret being stubborn. There will definitely be major blown calls and rule misunderstandings that will alter games. The fan, media, and team outcry will be loud and the leagues rep will be tarnished. Make a good faith settlement offer and get the regular refs back ASAP.

.
Actually, my point was, MP, that he wasn't doing well blocking (at least not well enough to warrant keeping if he we aren't relying on him to make catchs). I saw a few whiffs, and while I could never hear who had flags thrown their way (watching Redskins broadcast), I thought he had at least one flag.

Either that or Lovie hit him w/ the red flag during a timeout called to throw the red flag on a play that can't be reviewed. ;)

I don't recall him getting flagged or whiffing on blocks...not saying you're wrong but just don't remember being struck by that. Yes, he did miss his block on the play last year that got Forte hit in the backfield and hurt-true.
Look, we are going to be keeping a TE in blocking on pass pro often this year. Thank God for that and less 5-man only protection schemes like Martz ran with abandon. KD is a decent inline blocker but he's also a much better receiving TE option than Spaeth. KA (if he sticks) & ERod are H-back types and primarily receivers out of the backfield. They both are sucky blockers at least as of now. ER went backwards on 2/3rds of his blocks last week. Seems to me that Bush and Clutts are better options for picking up a blitzer.
I guess I'm saying that MS looks like the best option for an inline blocking TE that isn't expected to go out and receive other than a rare short safety valve dump off. It wouldn't break my heart by any means if he's cut, but he's the only inline TE we have outside of KD, who I hope to see more of downfield on 10-20 throws.

Yeppers! He missed that block in the KC game where the LB "submarined" him and drove straight into Forte's knee. Spaeth is big and he's strong but from what I've seen of him he's not all that athletic. I think he's a good inline blocker who can give Webb some help in pass protection but when you ask him to catch a football or block on the move he becomes a liability. JMHO.

I farted. Big deal, right?
It is. But on to other things. Bigger things. Much bigger things.
We have been in a serious hole at tight end now for going on two years because of those idiots Jerry Angelo and Mike Martz essentially trading all of our big targets away. Losing Greg Olsen, who was slowly turning into a pretty decent pass protector under the direction of Mike Tice, hurt a lot, especially when you consider that he was giving us 600-700 receiving yards per season on average. Now, this wound up not hurting quite as much when you take into consideration that we managed to pry loose Brandon Marshall from Miami's cold, dead hands (Anyone recognize the reference to the late, great Charlton Heston?), but I'm of the mind to think we could have gotten Marshall anyway for our third round pick last year, but then... ugh, there are too many scenarios going on in my head!
The point is this: we needed Greg Olsen. If we had had him last year, we might have a more dynamic pair of TEs between Kellen Davis and Olsen as far as well-balanced TEs are concerned. Now, to me, it's starting to look like we're going to have to go after another TE in the draft this year or perhaps in free agency who can block and is at least a decent receiver. Spaeth is a waste of the Bears' time in my estimation.
