Bush OK with sharing goal-line carries

LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- Chicago Bears running back Michael Bush flashed wiggle and fleet feet Saturday in shaking Washington Redskins linebacker Perry Riley on an 8-yard touchdown run.

Dennis Wierzbicki/US PresswireMichael Bush showed quick feet against the Redskins on Saturday.

While Bush continues to prove he can move, the running back insisted he doesn’t want to take away goal-line carries from starter Matt Forte.

“Personally, I feel that if he gets it down there, he should be able to punch it in, just to reward him,” Bush said. “But I’ve always been like that. If a coach calls me (in for short yardage), and that’s what I need to do, I’m not going to say no.”

Bush rushed for 21 yards and two touchdowns in a win over the Redskins, which served as atonement for a rough outing in the Bears' preseason-opening loss to the Denver Broncos. Bush finished with 2 yards on three attempts in that contest, in addition to losing a fumble deep in Chicago’s own territory, which led to Broncos points.

“They say I’ve got long strides. Some people say I’m slow because I’m big,” Bush said. “Some people say I can’t move. But I don’t know what you guys are watching. I’ve been doing it for awhile, and that’s not me.”

Bush made that apparent against the Redskins, and said strong performances by Forte stoke his competitive fire to respond once he gets a chance to carry the ball.

“We’re competing,” Bush said. “Just do good, and do the job right. It’s not about who’s starting and who’s got that.”

Having spent the first four years of his career with the Oakland Raiders, Bush admitted to being surprised with how his new team conducts itself in pre-game warmups. Bush called the atmosphere at Soldier Field, “a whole lot different.”

But he expects to adjust quickly to the new surroundings.

“As far as fans, it’s a little quieter here,” Bush said. “I’m used to the Black Hole just going crazy. Even the players here carry themselves differently. I’m used to the fired-up, going-crazy pregame warmup, and I’m walking around and I was like, ‘Man, these guys are quiet.’ I just asked guys, ‘Why is everybody so quiet?’ And they say ‘That’s just the way we are.’ Eventually, I’ll be the same way.”

Truth is it won’t matter how Bush conducts himself, as long as he continues to contribute.

The first thing I noticed about Bush in short yardage is what he has that Matt Forte doesn't and it isn't 245lbs. Bush has quick feet and that allows him to give a little "shake and bake" or shift to a different hole in tight quarters. That's something Forte has never been good at.

On that 8 yard TD run Bush left that Skin's LB holding nothing but his own dick. Talk about a nice move for a big man. That one deserved a big old Chris Berman.....whooop!

Am I the only person who thought Bush's "juke" in the pocket wasn't anything too special?

soul, he reminds me a little bit of Ron Dayne, though I suspect that Ron Dayne might have been slightly bigger when he was playing running back at Wisconsin. They are/were both downhill runners who build up speed the more they run, and they are/were a bear to bring down. I'm sure glad he's playing for us this year.

We're going to be running the hell out of the ball this year. You wait and see. We're going to see a lot of playaction passes thrown deep as a result of this.

Probably. Oh and by the way the Gophers suck!

Peace brother. You know being a Badger guy I just had to get that in here somewhere.

Except that as a pro Ron Dayne sucked because all he could do was run downhill. Bush has some moves to him. Ron Dayne couldn't get out of his own way. That's the same reason John Clay was a good college back but not a good pro prospect.

I'll be happy if we don't blame him for anything stupid during the regular season.

I guess I just expect when a RB only has one guy to make miss they do it.
