He seems like more of a run blocker mauler, but not that skilled pass blocking. Scouts.com says "He can stand up to a bull rush, but he can struggle adjusting in space on the second level and has a hard time getting out in front of the play when pulling."
He's very different than Spencer who is smaller, more athletic, better pass blocking, but not the big mauler-type that Tice seems to like.

I'm looking forward to seeing these guys coach. Hope they're good.

His OMG like pass blocking. I think part of the problem with guys like "Cheeto" and Louis is that they're too aggressive in their approach to pass blocking. They fire out but don't get good leverage or they lunge and get off balance. Just because they're "maulers" doesn't make them good blocker when they're up against a 3t DT like Melton who can be just as strong and a whole lot quicker.
I think they're a whole lot like a car where the run blocking skills come as part of the standard equipment but pass blocking skills are an "aftermarket" dealer add on.

Matt Forte like him some maulers; Jay Cutler not like so much. Who wins? Jay.

Yeah RoadHouse it is which sorta proves one thing. Neither of them is a very good LT and we still are gonna have a problem there with whoever starts. It's Tweedle C and Tweedle Dumb.
If Tice is bound and determined to find out if Webb can ever play LT in the NFL then this would be the year to do it. If he doesn't show any significant improvement in his ability to proctect or stop getting those stupid useless drive halting penalties then ya' gotta give up and send him packing. Let him become someone else's project if they want it and find a guy who can play LT.
The fact that CWill has never been given a real shot at LT tells me they've always believed he had marginal talent for it. Unlike Webb he doesn't have the ideal physical specs for a LT. He's athletic enough but he's not all that strong so he can get "bull rushed", which he frequently does, and for a LT he has "alligator short arms". OK at LG but not so good at LT. But he does have something Webb doesn't. Intelligence and an ability to learn. You don't even get into "Vandy" if you're dumb as a box of rocks let alone graduate.
So give them both one more shot this weekend to sort it out but I think we all know what the results will be. Even if all things were equal CWill is more valuable to the Bears right now as a reserve OT/OG. It looks like Tice is gonna start Webb and Spencer on the left side unless Rachal comes on strong so no matter what that left side is iffy. CWill has first man off the bench skills at either LT or LG so he's Tice's insurance policy against a disaster at either spot.
CWill may not start but in certain ways he's just as valuable to Tice as a starter by his not starting him. That removes some options I think Tice would just as soon keep in his pocket for a rainy day, or in the event of a 100 year flood. At any rate this is my take on it.

Tonight I watched that first half again (my 3rd time watching this game). The oline actually looked pretty good. Immediately after the game on Saturday night, I was a bit disappointed with the oline. But watching them play again, I don't know what my problem was. They were fine.
Webb actually looked really good. He was matched up against a good DE in Stephen Bowen. They gave him some help on some plays (smart). C.Will looked ok too, but to be honest, Webb looks a bit better to me. But neither looked bad.
Maybe this line will be A-ok after all.
It was Spencer who looked the worst on that line. To be honest, Carimi had a couple of bad plays, but he's almost a rookie this year, so you'd expect an ocassional bad play.
Four sustained scoring drives with 11 minutes left in the half. The Bears look great.
The offence looks really really solid. I'm thinking it doesn't matter who our LT is. Either is playing good enough to do a decent job this year.
