So the guy went and did something ' unconventional ' hoping it might help . Big deal ( and it happens more than you think ) . Negotiations always boil down to " what can you do for ME " ( on both sides ).
So... I guess this is the press' way of going : Hah Caught Ya. Riiight. Doin what ? Trying to help himself and the team out ? And I thought team doctors are supposed to be able to determine whether or not a guy needs surgery. What did he do fool the MRI ? BS. They were just crossing their fingers hoping it might heal well enough ... and maybe it hasn't.
But I don't see this being the big Caught Ya story, the hard-up for money press is trying to make it out to be. Either he's healthy enough or he ain't.
What should you call any : Fumble , Hold , Interception , Three and out , or Sack ?
A " F.H.I.T.S " ? or a J'Marcus ?

Be mad at Wright if you must. He was only going off instinct and going for the ball. He must not have thought Urlacher was going to be able to jump high enough.
Secondly, be pissed at Urlacher not Lovie. He was questionable going into the game, and decided to play. Lovie should have sat him, but if Urlacher wants to play, he is going to play and he won't let anyone stop him.

Remember, there is also the confusion of how many knee procedures he has had. This would be number FOUR though Urlacher claims he has only had one. Remember as was pointed out in the original post, Urlacher will lie to his coaches and training staff in order to play

So he's a warrior who has taken too much advice from Jason Witten. Also ... I haven't seen a coach yet, who didn't yank a guy if they can tell he isn't playing up to snuff especially in the NFL ( How did he miss THAT tackle ? Somethings wrong get em outta there ).
Maybe he did lie. Oh well this ain't Enron where people are gonna lose their life's savings. He'll either perform or he'll be outta there. Whatever the case, I think the Bears have gotten their money's worth. And he should be set for life also.
( now if he lied and got a new contract ... that would be a different story )

Yeah, I'm not saying I agree with Seifert's whining about the lack of cooperation the press is getting from Urlacher or the Bears. I posted it mainly as additional info, some of it speculative itself, about rumors of what's been going on.
I don't think Urlacher or the Bears owe the press any explanations about it any more then my ex has a right to know where I was and who I was with anytime I go out. Sorry babe, those days ended long ago. The press is intrusive to a fault sometimes and do little more than use an excuse based on false entitlements.
With or without them most of us have been able to put two and two together and we all know there's ample reason to be concerned. Even if he plays 100% of the defensive snaps will he still be the same player he's been or is this Dick Butkus all over again?
The press often wants to believe we all have the intellect of a bunch of twelve year olds and can't reason things out. If we can make educated guesses about our kids drinking and smoking weed based on how little evidence they're likely to leave I think we can keep up with the clues here and make some judgement calls of our own without the daily help of their columns.
This whining is all about their paychecks not Brian Urlacher's or our right to know and their perception of the need to supply that knowledge. We got it handled here Kevin so go back to writing another article about the line. There's more mystery there than there is about Urlacher's knee right now.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

(Benji, give me a fuckin' break. Wright is 5'11" and Urlacher is 6'4". Even if you were Major Wright you could come up with a better one than this!)

if Urlacher wants to play, he is going to play and he won't let anyone stop him. True but for the first time in his career he may be forced to rethink that approach. One more season giving it all he has while that knee grinds itself down to becoming useless maybe both as player and an ordinary mortal or does he "baby" it as best he can and try to stretch his career out for another couple of years?
I'm guessing that he has some career altering decisions to make because we've never seen Brian Urlacher doing what he is now in his entire career up to this point. He's always been a fast healer but this time it's not only not healing fast it's not healing completely or maybe at all!
There are a lot of question marks right now and he's the only one with all the answers but this isn't some sort of game he's playing. He's hurting and he's trying to figure out the best way to play it from here.

I don't care at all if he tried unconventional therapy. He wants it to heal. Unfortunately, that therapy doesn't appear to work.
The bottom line is that Urlacher is in serious jeopardy of eithe rnot playing or being efffective this season. That exposes that part of our game. The LB's were known as one of our strong areas. You can bet that teams will take his absence into consideration when game planning.
He says he will be back, but I am thinking that if he is, it may not be for long. I really hope I'm wrong on this. I thought that we had at least another year for Emery to fill holes before he addressed the MLB position. He may not have that luxury. I really hope Webb gels at LT because it's going to be tough to keep pulling rabbits out of Emerys hat.

This is all very sad. Brian Urlacher has put in a lot of great years as a top-tier MLB in a fairly complex defense. All he's done is make this defense go, make it run like a well-oiled machine, and in the years that he's ever spent significant time on the injured lists, the defense was absolutely atrocious and the team suffered greatly as a result.
Yes, JABF99 and MPBears, you both are right about one thing: Jerry Angelo royally fucked us over in terms of the depth of talent - or lack thereof - we have or don't have. We had ample opportunity and the resources over the recent years to draft rookies and sign free agents who would serve as the beacons of light for this team to shine on as one of the premier teams in the National Football League. Sadly, Jerry's frugality and lack of ability in drafting quality players in the draft on all sides of the ball show me he was totally inept at his job. What's more, he blamed his mistakes on the coaching staff. There is only so much a coach can do when you give him a sack of shit to work with. You can't polish a turd into a nugget of gold.
Jerry Angelo aside, we now have a proactive GM who is doing the little things to improve this team step-by-step. He got us a DE who will grow into his role as he advances in age, two aircraft carriers for wide receivers in Marshall and Jeffery who will be the cornerstones for this team's passing attack for years to come, and a running back in Bush who could very well be on his way to being one of two runners who rush for 1,000+ yards next year in Mike Tice's run happy offense. There were other acquisitions, of course, that will pay dividends, but those are just some examples I will give of players coming in, stepping up, and making a big difference for the Bears this year and in the years to come.
Now, there is more work to be done. We need a new MLB. That is something that will most likely be addressed in the first round of the draft. We need some more players on the offensive line in the worst way possible. That will be taken care of probably through both free agency and the draft, with probably the second round pick being dedicated to picking a guard, while a LT will be acquired through free agency. We are perhaps one year away from truly becoming a dominant team. This year's team has a nice mixture of both young and old players, and over the course of time, this team will become younger and younger. Eventually, the team will be overhauled with new players who, if Emery has anything to do with it, will be every bit as talented as the great players for whom they will have replaced.
But for now, let's enjoy Brian Urlacher while we still have him. He's one of the greatest MLBs in the history of the NFL. I suspect he'll play at least through 2013 before he calls it a career unless a miracle happens. But regardless, we have been blessed over the course of the past decade and a half with having great defenders being drafted, such as Urlacher, Brown, Briggs, Tillman, Vasher, and Harris, and some of them are gone. However, we will always have the memories, which are sweet and are of dominant defenses that led us to division titles, NFC Championship Games, and a Super Bowl.
