It doesn't matter who wins or loses the pre-season games. You're just test driving your starters, to see where you are against quality competition. And I realize Lovie Smith can fix a lot of things in the short time period left before the regular season begins.

But you don't fix that oline in two weeks. I don't know what you can do at this point. If they were horses you'd put a bullet in their heads to put them out of their misery & send 'em to the glue factory. We'll just hear from Lovie that "there's a lot of football left to play"......man, even Garza looked like crap tonight.

What a kick in the groin to watch a Bears team look that bad.

It's the preseason, I wouldn't read too much into it.

Tice is probably smart enough to adjust the passing game if the O-line is that big of a problem. A lot of elite teams have crap offensive lines. The way the game is played now, you can get away with that to an extent, if you have the skill players and play calling to compensate. The Packers o-line survives heavy criticism only because they get rid of the ball so quickly. I think they'll be ok' run blocking.

Honestly, my biggest concern for the season is the defensive pass rush. Can anyone else besides Peppers get to the QB? I'm really worried because Melton is terribly inconsistent. Izzy might have flashes as a 3 technique on passing downs, but nothing to hang your hat on, and off the edge, outside of his bull rush (and the occasional successful rip) he lacks good moves and counters. McClellin just needs to flat out develop physically. I hope someone can emerge, otherwise the defense will struggle.

I wonder why thru two different regimes with angelo and emory the OL is the bastard child.

A seventh round draft pick playing LEFT TACKLE.

Just start with the basics as far as the offense goes. The God's honest truth is there have been no "real" improvements in the line so there's no sense continuing the experiments Tice has been conducting on the left side. We can't put any combination there that works.

Best idea is to put either put CWill back at LG and find a vet swing tackle once teams start releasing vets or start Rachal. Spencer isn't gonna be able to handle it. No vet swing tackle no CWill at LG. You can't leave James Brown as the only reserve OT.

As that "trite" remark states "it all stars up front" so work on upfront. What we began last year with and even what we had by the 5th game or so was working well enough to win games so put that bunch back out there plus Carimi at RT and minus Spencer at RG. My guess is he'll be gone anyway or asked to take a major pay cut. Get a vet OT who can handle LT in a pinch and go.

The ONLY way this line, and as an extension, the offense will succeed is to get them playing together in as coordinated a manner as possible NOW and hope that after the first three or four games they're getting settled in. The LT competition may have been a great theory but so was the theory that the world was flat or that the mood was made of green cheese. Time to drop out of the fairy tale and into reality land.

This line can't do it on it's talent alone. They have to do it through better teamwork and coordination. Leave "Shrek" at LT and line CWill up there with him if you have to. Sew their fuckin' jerseys together if you have to but figure it out and get it done. Time's wastin'.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

I'd give Emery time before declaring that. He may or may not address the line, but Angelo put the future of the team in such a hole, there was almost no wrong way to address the draft.

Rachal stunk too to be honest. NY was missing their best dlineman tonight too. Granted they are still a great defense.

I look for us to have to max protect a lot for Cutler. The old Mike Martz thing of having blocking TE's and RB's. It will diminish Cutler's effectiveness with his new toys, but you do what you have to do.

There won't be a running game this year to speak of. These guys flat cannot run block. And it's not just the left side sucking on run blocking. We stunk tackle-to-tackle across the oline.

I usually watch these games 2 or 3 times to watch individual olinemen work.......the bright spot about tonight's game is that I won't have to do that. I couldn't bear to watch this thing again. It's like when you accidentally step in dog crap. You just want to scrape it off your shoe and go on.

I'm going too try and forget I ever SAW this game (glad it's pre-season). As Lovie would say "the sun will still come up in the morning" and "we still have a lot of football left to play"....

You don't know that for sure, JABF99. There is still time to scheme and do all that stuff. Martz didn't make the offense go last year, it was Tice's influence in bringing chip blockers as tight ends to block alongside Webb in order to max protect for Cutler. We're going to be fine. It just takes some patience. We were able to block well against the Redskins, didn't we? I think it was just an example of the Giants having an elite defense. We did manage to score a touchdown on them, Forte did average 3.9 yards per carry through a half and part of the third quarter, and the defense only gave up that second touchdown because they were pinned down inside the five yard line at like the three yard line.

You also have to take into consideration that these were two pretty good defenses going toe to toe against one another tonight. With the exception of Eli Manning torching us in the second quarter, we really defended the Giants' vaunted off-tackle rushing attack pretty well. Yeah, we gave up two big runs to that rookie David Wilson, who the Giants drafted in the first round this year, but otherwise, we shut them down. If it hadn't been for that damn blocked punt that Unga dropped the ball on, the score at halftime would have read 10-7. There was less than two minutes left in the half when that happened, and this was a defensive struggle. The Giants shut down our offense, and we bent, but didn't break.

(Well Spencer isn't getting it done so if we have to have a fuck up playing LG I'd rather we spent $700k on one than $3.7 mil. Spencer either takes a pay cut or takes a hike. JMHO)

The can they just didn't tonight. You don't get 1700 yards out of your RB's like we did in 2011 behind a patchwork line that can't run block. Doesn't sound like anything was working well tonight. Cutler had a poor game and Bennett drops a sure TD pass????? Bennett?????

Their heads weren't in it their bodies weren't in it who the hell knows but at least jay didn't get sacked nine times in one half so they've got that going for them. Just not a good game but it was 17-10 when the starters left playing against the SB Champs so they were still in the game.

I hope you're right. It was one butt-ugly thing to watch. I know most folks watch the scores of these pre-season games. I only watch the players performance. It was a spectacle (and I'm usually a very positive guy). But this one was pure crap.

I know they all can play better (with the exception of the oline who simply don't look very talented). They look like what they are, a mish-mash cobbled together in hopes we can "get by" until Emery can fix this thing. It sure looked like "baling wire & twine" tonight. Butt ugly.
