Chicago Bears Take A Victory Lap Against NYG

Did I see Manning shred us on one drive ...

or DAA BEARRSE not give anything away?

Looked like alot of CHICAGO BEARS were heading away from the ball ...

when you know damn good and well they could have done better.

This almost seemed like a setup to let Manning score.

    It's pre-season ... and ratings for markets.

Actually the end of the game was more in line of what is expected.

Basically, their starters imposed their will on us. They did anything they wanted, any time they wanted - and we rolled over for them. Offense, defense and special teams. We looked like a big pile of stinking, steaming crap.

Other than THAT, I feel like we did just fine. Love the fact we have better scrubs than them.

We'll get better. Almost everything that went bad tonight can be fixed - except that oline. I don't know what Lovie Smith can do with the line at this late date. Maybe just do the max-protection a lot, and go without a running game this year. Not exactly a formula for the playoffs.

I don't give up that easily on us. Half the fans in Chicago and around the fruited plain bitch and complain about how awful the Bears look based on what goes on preseason. Look at it this way: none of the plays you saw tonight were mapped out or scheme. We didn't run the ball a whole lot in the first half, or rather, didn't try to run the ball more than seven times with both Forte and Bush, and Cutler was out of sync, like he wasn't focused. I would imagine that the coaches will have more than a few parting shots to say to the players tomorrow when the team gets back to Chicago. Their focus was what did them in during the first half, although the Giants made some excellent plays.

JABF99, don't fret. When it comes time to start up the engines and to focus on winning real games, things will turn around. Just you wait. They always have the past two years. And the good thing is that Martz is not here to screw up the offense. Tice will scheme enough to build up the running game and give us an explosive passing attack with all of those big receivers that we have.

Dags, I agree that a lot of tonight's problems can be fixed. The only component of the team that doesn't look fixable is the oline. They were manhandled one-on-one. That's not a scheme thing. It's a lack of talent thing. And our problems are more than the left side of the oline. There really isn't much talent there with the possible exception of Carimi. Garza, I will admit, is average. The rest need to be flushed down the toilet as soon as we can get starter quality NFL linemen.

We can max protect a lot this year, and that will protect Cutler.

Do you need a bag so you can hyperventilate? It's going to all be okay.

I've been saying this all summer. This offense is going to have to be run like the Wisconsin Badgers offense is done in the college ranks. We are going to have to run a lot of one-and-two tight end sets and run off-tackle a lot unless we do the smart thing and put Chris Williams into the game, who I think is a very competent and talented LG. I think Garza is a solid, sturdy C, but we do need to take a look into perhaps somehow acquiring a new C who is younger and can thus give us good miles. Let's face it: when Jerry Angelo low-balled Olin Kreutz, who was still ranked as one of the top ten C's in the NFL even until his last full season as a pro with us prior to going to New Orleans, we lost valuable experience and good blocking at that point of attack. We broke his heart, and he never recovered. But that's beside the point and I'm going off on a tangent for no good reason.

Carimi has the potential to be an All-Pro someday if he stays healthy. I think Lance Louis can be a competent RG who is also versatile enough to play RT in a pinch. The only areas where I'm just totally not convinced we can go any longer without doing some major overhauling other than maybe C (because, again, of Garza's age) is LT and LG. Webb is horrible, just horrible. I would say that Chris Williams would be a competent LT if he had been brought up to play the position all along, but he wasn't. He's been trained by Mike Tice to play LG, and he does so fairly well. I don't know, though, what one can do about Webb. One game, he looks like a potential All-Pro LT, the next game he gives up three sacks and several more hurries. I suspect that we'll have to live with "Taco Man" for another season. I do hope that we decide to cut bait with him after this season is over or at least turn him into a swing tackle. He would probably be good at that since he could sit on the sideline eating tacos.

But don't worry. You're placing way too much importance on the Bears' performance during the preseason. Tice will figure out ways to max protect and operate this offense. I imagine the running game will return to form and we will get some big plays between Cutler and our big WRs.
