Cutler: We were a little off tonight

Cutler had a couple of passes dropped and made some others that he may have wanted back.

"We were just a little bit off tonight," Cutler said. "Our communication was lacking. We missed some stuff we should have hit, left a few plays out there.

"I thought the offensive line did a good job pass blocking. Got toi get the run game going a little bit, so there's work to be done, but we were right there in the game."

His highlight was a touchdown pass to Brandon Marshall.

"He makes life easy," Cutler said. "We missed too many things out there. I was talking to him when we came out. We just have to clean it up.

"We're in a good place. I think we're headed in the right direction. Just clean up a few things. "

Seems to jive with what I read. I caught the replay of that TD pass. When have we ever had a WR who he could drop a pass into like that? They made that one look easy so there are a lot more of those to look forward to. Not a good night for Jay or the RBs in that first half but it's a comfort having Campbell at #2. At least he can move the team.

When Cutler has time to pass, he can be good. Marshall is amazing.

My take on this is that we may be able to beat teams who's 1st string talent is about what the NY Giant's 2nd and 3rd stringers are at. But the better teams like Detroit and Green Bay won't be easy to beat without an oline. And you gotta be able to run the ball better than we did tonight. Forte was getting hit in the backfield, and struggled to make something out of nothing.

The heck of it is Soul, that I thought we looked better last year with our oline, than these guys looked tonight. Maybe that's partially due to flip flopping people around on the line. Maybe they need to "gel" or something.....but boy I get tired of hearing the "gel thing" every year we have a crappy line.

At some point you simply need better talent. Better players on that oline.

That will take another year. A couple of these guys are gonna do all right and if that dim little 15w brain of Shrek's starts glowing just a little brighter maybe we can learn to live with him. God knows that unless Emery has an extra $70 mil or more hiding in his wallet signing a Jake Long type will be unlikely.

I've been in jams with good musicians that sounded like crap because it wasn't coordinated and most were either just trying to show off and weren't listening to one another. And I've played with guys of far lesser talent who rocked the joint because they did listen to one another and played like a unit instead of 5 or 6 soloists. Unity can overcome a lack of talent when the effort is there.

I've said this in at least three or four threads. We're going to be alright. This team is going to win a lot more games than it loses. I wouldn't be shocked if we win the NFC North this year - I really wouldn't. Other than two plays - one by Chris Williams at LT and the other by Chilo Rachal at LG - the blocking was pretty solid. Tice needs to just go ahead and place Webb at LT and Chris Williams at LG. There is no excuse for continuing this "Merry-Go-Round" of moving offensive linemen in and out of the lineup all preseason since we're now just two weeks away from the start of the regular season.

One of the things I dig most about Cutty is that he's SUCH a perfectionist . You can see it in those moments when he's mad ; the blazing eyes , the yelling , the gestures ( sometimes at teammates , sometimes himself ). The dude cares - about the team being good and about being good himself , which means even more improvement is inevitable ( which is more than I can say about some of the 'dead eyed' under-achievers we've had here playing QB in the past ). It bodes well .

And this team IS gonna play better football when the reg season begins .

No question about the fact that Jay has taken over that offense now. It's no longer Mike Martz's offense or Ron Turner's offense that's HIS offense now and that "ownership" is exactly what we've been needing from him.

If there's one thing that can get him the blocking he needs out of those guys it's him and his ability to will them or shame them into doing it right. Whichever works and I don't think he'll be shy about shaming them privately is he has to. Cutler intends to win big. You can see it in him.

I don't want to hear this bullshit out of the media anymore about Cutler being the second coming of Jeff George. I really don't. Cutler did something that George never did, and that was lead his team to the conference title game. He was one game away from the Super Bowl, and might well have won the game for the Bears had he not gone down with an injury because of that ridiculously bad offensive line that we had that year. I'm looking forward to seeing what he's going to do this season with his new toys at his disposal. That should be something interesting to watch.
