4th, that's kind of what they did last night. Cutler was chucking that ball out early. That's what we'll see a big dose of all season long. I do think Forte can make some of his own holes and do better than that 1 yard per carry first half against the Giants starters. Forte did this last year. The line was bad, but Forte was gifted enough to make something out of nothing.

It's "run what ya' brung time" brother. There are no quick fixes other than getting them to play better as a unit. Is there starting talent there? Yes. All Pro talent? No. I'll keep saying this until I'm blue in the face. Talent is only half the battle. That talent still needs to know what it's doing and what the guy next to him is gonna do and right now that's what's lacking.
This isn't a line that's short on talent it's one that's short on coordination and the only way I know of to fix that is point to five guys and say get your ass in there and do your fucking job. One reason there's a problem is that the entire left side of the line looks like a construction zone and the defensive traffic isn't paying any attention to the drive slow signs.
Just get the line set and work them as a unit and 80% of this will pass.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

The first move we should make is move C Williams back to LG and then pray that some team gets real dumb ad releases a good LT

I don't think I would equate it to "going to war" but I understand the gist. There needs to be accountability after that last offering. Leaders on and off the field need to put it in no uncertain terms that "it will never happen again". Lovie might do well and actually get mad and try to light a fire with the group.
There's a lot of work to be done just to get to passable/respectable-at least shoot for it. That and there's also a trade deadline coming up...

Here's the deal. I don't think the guys are sandbagging. They are trying their best. They just don't have what it takes talent-wise IMHO.
I agree 100% with Soul that it may help to put these players in one position - and let them maximize their skills at that ONE position. But wouldn't you think they would have done that before now? With 16 days left?
Emery will get us better talent this off season, like he did for the WR's this year. It will happen. Especially if we repeat as the 3rd in the NFC-N Division, after bringing in great offensive weapons for Cutler & re-signing Forte.
Watch the tar, feathers, pitchforks and torches come out if we tank our season - again - because we have a crap oline - again.
Emery isn't stupid. He'll fix things for NEXT year. Lovie may be gone though.

^^^^^ What he said is what you do.
We have what we have. We passed on DeCastro and Reiff (DDC would have been the answer at LG but Reiff probably wouldn't have changed much). There aren't going to be any "starting quality" OLs out there anymore. You go with what you have -- the BEST 5 in their BEST 5 RESPECTIVE POSITIONS. That means:
1) Name the starting line and stick with it. Work it hard in practice and work it extensively in PS game #4.
2) That line needs to be Webb-CWill-Garza-LL-Carimi. Plan on Spaeth being glued to Webb's left hip for all pass plays over 10 yards. Plan on Bush or Clutts blocking from the backfield a lot likewise.
3) Pick up a vet OT off the waiver wire to be swing OT. He's not gonna be anything "special" and may be even dinged up. There's no other choice. Forget about the nonsense of CW manning that spot. He's needed at LG and he isn't that good as a swing anyway since he's a "C-" (at best) LT and a "D+" RT. Be prepared to move quickly because other teams (Cardinals? Jets?) are going to be looking too for reserve OT help.
4) Cut Rachal on Monday. Epic fail. Move on.
5) Put EWill as backup LG/OC and Spencer as backup RG/OC and your waiver pickup as backup LT/RT
6) James Brown: either you think highly enough of his future to keep a 9th OLman or you risk releasing him. He hasn't done anything encouraging in PS games so I think there's a decent chance he makes it to the PS (maybe to join Henry or Brandon). If not, then que sera sera. Either bite the bullet and keep a 9th or chance releasing him if he can't be the swing OT in September.
7) Start planning for how you're gonna fix LT next offseason. If that means FA, then so be it. No other choice. If that means cutting Spencer too (for Henry?) to start clearing cap space, then so be it. Unless we planning on finishing 4-12 this year, the answer won't be found in the draft.
That's the best realistic scenario I can come up with fellas...

I'm the only one but I'm not terrified like everyone else. I thought Webb looked a little better and definitely won the battle, CWill was awful. I wish they'd put him at LG but I doubt it. I know it's the third game blah blah blah.. it's still pre-season. It's pre-season against the deepest and best DL in the game. If we dominated I'd be like what in the fuck happened. I think CWill at LG would be better but I'm not gonna freak. Look what we did against the Skins, not every team is gonna have what the Giants have. We'll gameplan much more thoroughly in the regular season. Look this team is good.. good enough to win a Super Bowl.. but we're not gonna go undefeated. We're gonna have ugly games and we're gonna lose. IT's gonna happen. When we lose and when we play our best is what's important.

I will say that one thing which does concern me is that some of the lineman and even Lovie seem just a little TOO self satisfied and smug about their problems right now.
Too much "whistling in the dark" going on to suit me. Cutler says they need to "clean some things up" and I believe him. In the case of the line maybe they should get the Soldier Field maintenance crew to help. Look like a pretty big job so they may as well start on it Monday.

Where do we go from here with this pitiful oline?
My vote is we rent them out to the Packers when we aren't using them. It would help them from getting too far ahead of us.
