Bears to place safety Hardin on IR
By Brad Biggs, Tribune reporter4:38 p.m. CDT, August 25, 2012
The Chicago Bears have begun the process of whittling down the roster to the 75-man limit they must be at by Monday afternoon.
The most significant move the Tribune has learned to this point is that Brandon Hardin, the third-round draft pick from Oregon State, will be placed on injured reserve. Hardin suffered a neck injury last week in the third quarter of the preseason game vs. the Redskins at Soldier Field.
Hardin was removed from the field on a cart and taken to a hospital where he remained overnight. He was back at Halas Hall earlier this week but was wearing a neck brace. The plan is for Hardin to make a complete recovery but he will not play in his rookie season.
The loss of Hardin has created at least one spot for a safety on the roster. Anthony Walters, an undrafted free agent a year ago, looks like he has a solid shot. He’s a capable performer on special teams. The Tribune reported the Bears are also exploring free-agent options and will consider Charlie Peprah, the veteran that was cut loose earlier this summer by the Green Bay Packers.
The Bears informed wide receiver Chris Summers, safety Trevor Coston and defensive end Derek Walker they will be placed on waivers, according to multiple sources. Two sources also say that offensive lineman Nick Peischel has a knee injury that will prevent him from making the squad. What type of roster move is in store for him remains to be seen. None of the moves are official as the club has yet to announce them.
The Bears opened the day with 88 players on the roster, so they must trim 13 to reach the limit by the 3 p.m. deadline Monday. Check back for more updated information as it is available.

Yeah I could see this coming earlier in the week and maybe even before that based on his history and now I even understand that. This kid has all kinds of physical gifts but he has a lot to learn about protecting his body if he's ever gonna be an NFL Safety or STeams ace.
Me thinks Lovie blows fundamental things like the correct technique for blocking and tackling off way too easy. Back to the basics. Football players who know how to play football not track stars and athletes.
This was the injury that made me throw my hands up in disgust and turn off the Washington game. As soon as I watched the replay and how he made that tackle I got pissed. No wonder the kid is always hurt. He's lucky he's didn't end up in an operating room or paralyzed.
One more lost year by a draft pick we should have been able to count on for some help and maybe even as a starter later this year. I'll tell you this injury shit pisses me off even more than the OLine play because most of it was created by stupidity not just bad luck.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

Damn ... I had high hopes for him . The silver lining is it gives his old injury 1 more year to solidify , he can work on getting in even better shape , and he's still getting paid . So I hope he doesn't wallow in it , keeps his chin up and throws himself into his work. He can learn while he waits. Maybe it's a blessing in disguise.
What should you call any : Fumble , Hold , Interception , Three and out , or Sack ?
A " F.H.I.T.S " ? or a J'Marcus ?

I'm speechless at how stupid and wasteful this is (on Hardin's part). This kid needs to wise up or he's gonna have a short and injury/penalty/fine ridden career. I'm pissed at our 3rd rounder being out for the year in August!
The only bright spot is that Walters has shown enough to be worth a roster spot IMHO.

I know injuries cannot be helped. My thing about it was when your converting a CB with a very known injury history I would think one of the most foundational, fundamental things would be to school the kid on keeping his head up and tackling right and burning that point into his mind over and over. Something like "If I ever see you tackle poorly and just lead w/your head I will pull you" type of thing.
Arguing on the internet is like winning the special olympics, even if you win your still messed up.

Well he can always just tape smelling salts to his upper lip b4 every game like Doug Plank used to do . Ain't very safe or smart but some guys DGAS.

i had high hopes for him, but seeing the way he made that tackle and his history of being hurt, I am concerned that he will never stay healthy.
Maybe a season long tackling clinic, but old habits are hard to break (much harder than a shoulder for instance).
His best chance to make a lot of money in the NFL is to take out a big money insurance policy in case of an injury. A sure bet!
