Flip-flopping players out of position MAY be the "Next Big Thing" and Tice is just ahead of the curve.

I'm looking forward to seeing these guys coach. Hope they're good.

He moved people around so what they did last year was not what he could necessarily expect this year. An OL coach of all people should know that when you move people around on the OL that it is a different and new day.
I agree that it was handled very poorly. I can't believe my going back and forth on Tice like this. When he was with the Vikings, I thought he was an idiot. Up until he married Webb, I actually thought he was a damned good OL coach. Now I think I was right the first time.
That was my point and the point where he made his first mistake. Moving CWill out and Spencer over created a whole new chemistry on the left while at the same time Louis is settling back into RG and Carimi back into RT. Like I said.

The "least" amount of work would have been needed if he simply began with last years starting five playing in those exact same spots and went from there. The key then is exactly the same as it is now it's just 4 months after the fact. If there is a vet OT out there to be had who can play well enough to cover Webb's ass we need to find him and should have done it this spring.
A single OT allows us to go back to Plan A, or at least what Plan A should have been. It seems to me that if there have always been doubts about CWill as a LT and there were little or no doubts about him as a LG then maybe just maybe it should have stayed that way. I'm not Mike Tice but for whatever reason he's never been convinced that CWill could play LT and it would seem that lack of faith has been confirmed.
I don't know whether he can or not. I'm not his coach or anyone's version of a very knowledgeable line coach. But what I do know is that the guy can play LG fairly well yet we move him and then to compensate move a career OC just learning to play RG over to LG. This has been a Chinese Fire Drill for 3 months now and we still aren't any closer to a starting five now than we were then.
That's my gripe. IMHO we still have exactly the same need we did then. Another vet OT who can play backup and at least pose some threat, no matter how imagined, to Webb!

Why didn't they just leave the guys in their roles from last year?
You have to wonder where the oline would be right now, if Tice had just left people at their positions. The oline was beginning to look better as the season progressed last year. Not great, but better. Throw Carimi back at RT and go with it another year.
With a full off-season, camp & pre-season in these same roles, wouldn't you think we'd be fairly solid right now? Then, we're not in crisis mode this year. We'd be fine until Emery can address the oline in the next off-season. Like he did the WR's this year.
It seems so simple. Why'd we have to screw it all up?

The fact that Tice is admitting that he's focused almost strictly on pass protection and has paid little to no attention to run blocking is, to me, disturbing. For one thing, his intent during the regular season is to run the shit out of the football -- how are we supposed to do that if we don't practice the fundamentals with both linemen and running backs that achieve this goal? Second of all, if he's that concerned with pass protection to the point where he's virtually ignored run blocking, I don't really know what to say other than he's not a very mindful coach. A mindful coach can keep track of all the little things that make his team perform up its optimal level, and I just don't see that with Tice. He's got to do a lot better than this if he's going to have a successful year.
At this rate, I would almost be tempted to send out the first team unit against the Browns since it's apparent that nothing has been decided on the offensive line as far as who gets positioned where, etc. If Chris Williams gets cut, I'm going to be one unhappy Bears fan.

Hilarious. Definitely not PC, but hilarious
I knew he has swallowed them somehow, but I was thinking the other end.
