J’Marcus Webb likely secures Bears starting LT job

J’Marcus Webb got some rest Friday, had a good meal.
And the whole no sacks and locking up a starting job didn’t hurt, either.

The Bears left tackle had a solid night, and while they haven’t made an official declaration, it seems he has a starting job secured, something he’d still like to hear.
The Bears first offensive line, long a trouble spot, didn't allow a sack of Jay Cutler in a 20-17 win over the Giants.

“I got a good nap in, and I’m feeling pretty good now,” Webb said after the game, via Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times. “I have to look at the film, and in addition to the chicken, the shrimp and the pasta [I ate], it really made it a good night.

“Man, that pasta was . . . nah, I’m kidding. I would like some resolution, but you know, that’s not up to me. I feel like I keep working hard and playing the way I’m playing, and everything will work out on its own.”

Webb has been involved in a competition with former first-rounder Chris Williams, but seems to have distanced himself in the preseason, and a clean sheet against one of the best lines in the game helped.

“[No sacks] was definitely a good sign,” Webb said. “You definitely want to move the ball up and down the field, work as a unit that feels good and strong, and then come out with the win.
“I think we did a solid job, but just got to look at the film. Can’t give you anymore than that right now.”

Along with a nap and a good meal, it’s hard to ask for any more than that.

I worked at a start-up many years ago and it was a fun environment. I don't remember the exact topic we were discussing - it may have been one of our popular products that always seemed to have something wrong with it. We seemed to always be re-engineering it and it finally got to a point where it still had warts but it was better.

A couple of us were talking about how it still didn't work but it worked better and one guy quipped that our new motto was now "we suck less"

I'm thinking that is also Webbs motto. He may have gotten the job, but rather than him having earned it on performance he earned it on his sucking less (and perhaps eating more).

Oh I think there's whole lot more we can ask for but whether or not we get it is another thing.

Ya' see here's the thing about J'Marcus Webb. To me he always seems just a little too smug about the whole thing. I don't think the lack of any real competition for his job and being under Tice's protection has helped this kid grow up at all. He's gonna continue to be inconsistent and immature about his job even more so now if he believes he really won that battle for LT as opposed to simply not losing it.

We're in for another long year.

Let's get him a new T-shirt that says, Hi, I'm J'Marcus and I suck less now.

There's the vague hint of a comment rolling around in my brain that I'd like to make here about someone in my past but I guess I'll let her off the hook just for today.

Well, while we are on that point, probably the same can be said of Rosanne as she has gotten older

It's that little switch the preacher flips right after you say the "I do's" brother. It's known as a BJ kill switch. It's always been there in the original plans but they put a big smudge mark right there so we don't find out about it until it's too late.

another long year? Personally I thought last year was going quite wonderfully until Cutler and Forte went down. If we can get another stretch like that minus injuries plus Marshall and Alshon.. minus Martz.. plus Bush. I'm down. During our five game win streak we gave up a sack a game, outscored opponents 161-85, had a +8 turnover differential, and had the ball for almost 32 minutes a game on average. Add in our new toys and an OC who knows how to use them, I'm ready.

Webb: “I think we did a solid job"
Less than 1 yard per carry rushing against the Giants starters. Yes, it was epic.

    Trestman - Kromer - Tucker - DeCamillis

I'm looking forward to seeing these guys coach. Hope they're good.

I meant another long year watching Webb and not knowing what to expect Chi. He had some really good streaks last year and then just completely lost focus and I'm not seeing the growth in him that would tell me that it will be any different this year.

He'll have a couple of good games where we'll think we're out of the woods and then he'll get eaten alive by somebody again. But, he's what we've got so all we can do is hope for better consistency. There is no quantum leap in this kid. Only baby steps.

Probably. If you are talking about his underwear.

I don't ever remember him being dominant -- just ok for some period, but never very long. I guess that is better than a sharp stick in the eye, but not what I envisioned when Tice told us that we were ok. I thought he had seem some improvement and was pretty confident that were would be improved. The guy is delusional.

I do think we will be decent, but I do also think we will not make it very far in the playoffs against good teams just on the basis of our OL unless Webb gets better. It may still happen. I am not happy with Tice or his musical OL, but these guys can still gel to be better than they are.

I definitely do not like Webbs focus on his success. For me, he is taking his OT position for granted and does not appear to be putting the kind of focus that a guy that really wants it would do. I like to have fun for sure, but I take my work seriously and always want to do well. I don't see that in Webb -- unless maybe you factor in the ability to decimate a pasta bar.
