One positive for Bell is that he has had very little wear and tear on his body, yet he's a veteran. That will help his chances of landing on a team. I see him in a role similar to what he had here on the Bears. Maybe a #2 on a team hurting due to injuries.

I'm looking forward to seeing these guys coach. Hope they're good.

Back to the McCown decision. I think this may not be made until the last minute. Like any other team the Bears need a third QB but that guy would usually end up on the PS and not the 53 man roster unless he was a very hot commodity who'd never pass through waivers.

It stands to reason that the only prospect for the PS the Bears have is Blanchard. They've released him already and probably let him know of their intentions of putting him on the PS if he clears waivers. Once that's done there isn't any real need to for McCown and I think he's aware of this too.

What he can to to help himself is to put on a really good showing against Cleveland and hope that somebody sees him as a better vet option than whoever they have now or he replaces a younger guy as someone's #2 so that team can slide the young onto their PS. He proved last year that he can still come in and play for someone on short notice so he may get a shot elsewhere.

What it comes down to isn't the cap cost. It's minimal for a ten year vet anyway. It's the roster spot he takes up that's valuable and to me too valuable to give it to a guy who won't see the field in any game unless disaster strikes twice.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

Ya it will be last minute, but most teams only carry 2; and i doubt the majority of those that carried three on the active roster had 3 vets. No one is going to snatch this guy up if he put him on the street, so give that spot to a ST/D or ST/O guy.
