I liked Clutts, I wanted us to keep him; but the over reasction of cutting Clutts is getting to be a bit embarassing. Better hurry up and resign McCown and Allen b/c apparently all our Qb's and RB's are gonna get hurt b/c Clutts is no longer on the team. Might as well trade away Marshal and Jeffery b/c they won't matter b/c Clutts won't be back there blocking for Cutler.....Holy crap get a hold of yourselves!
Ric, that's not the whole story. He was a solution to a problem. We struggled punching the ball into the end zone for TD's when we were close to the goal line. The Clutts/Bush tandem would have helped solve this problem. This could have had an impact on games, where we settle for FG's instead of TD's. This could impact games outcomes. It can turn a loss into a win. To me, that is significant.

I'm all about solving problems (in my own little world). I'm not very good at complex thinking. I see problems - and pursue solid solutions to those problems. It works in life. You'd think it would work with a football team too.

I just didn't see the same level of return in keeping a 4th TE over solving a problem by keeping Tyler Clutts.

I think you miss the point some are making Ric. Bad personnel decisions in general are what has been hurting this team for half a decade now and they keep right on rolling up to the doorstep every year.

This isn't just about Clutts. It's symptomatic of the whoever is really running the show at that level. Since Lovie tends to wash his hands of the offense in favor of his OC of the moment I guess I'll lay this one at Tice's feet.

I think it's all pretty simple. When you're problem is blocking then maybe you shouldn't be getting rid of blockers. It's like throwing life jackets overboard while the ship is sinking just to reduce weight so it doesn't sink quite as fast or throwing parachutes out of an airplane so it will glide farther before it crashes. As far as common sense decisions go this one made little or none.

Exactly. Call me crazy, but wouldn't you keep players that help solve your problems? But hey, maybe I'm the stupid one here.

JABF, Clutts wasnt and isn't the only reason Bush is going to get TD's. BUsh did fine on his own w/out Clutts last year....he'll do okay this one.

You know, it's over, it's done, and at least we got another player from him at a position where we most definitely need some added talent and depth so we move on. I'm happy for Clutts and I hope Arian Foster appreciates having him around more than Mike Tice did.

Correct, he isn't the only reason. But those two together would have been unstoppable. Money-in-the-bank unstoppable. Defenses would have had to give max respect near the goal line & that in turn would have helped our passing game there too.

And don't even get me going about the "moving the chains" on 3rd and short situations. Automatic. All game long. All season long.

I ask you Ric. Is THAT significant? I think so.

p.s. I'm not expecting you or anyone else to agree with me here. And that's A-ok. This is just my simple pea-brain thinking. I'm a plodder thinker. I just saw a Bears problem as being solved. Now the guy is gone. Life will go on.

I don't know about anyone else but I am sick to death of a lack of goal-line punch. My god we have all these supposed "road graters" and yet we can't punch it down their throats or at least be moderately adequate. True Clutts wasn't a world-beater and didn't see the field much but when he did it had impact. It was a glimmer of hope last season in getting the tough yards.

The O line isn't getting it done and who ya gonna call? Adams? WTF! I remember Olsen in that situation and that shit wasn't pretty.

Clutts is good at blocking for TDs of the goal line?

Where was he last year when Forte failed just about every time on the goal line?

Benj, I was talking about the Clutts/Bush combo. Like we saw the other night on that goal line TD with Clutts leading Bush to that TD. I thought that was a thing of beauty. When I saw that I was excited about having solved one of our problems. Since it involved scoring, I thought it was a significant milestone.

I think Soul was the one who pointed out that Forte is another matter. Statistically I guess he doesn't do well with FB blocking. He's a different animal, and a RB who struggles in short yardage situations. Especially since our oline has been unable to get much of a surge against dline's in short yardage situations. But the Clutts/Bush combo seemed to be our solution to a long time problem.

It would have been nice to keep Clutts, I will not argue that. And yes, he made it look easy. But I think we will do just fine without him.
