I have Foster on my fantasy team, that's good at least. I'd be more disappointed if Forte ran well with a FB. Was Clutts in last year with Barber at the goal line? Bush should be fine without him. It's simple cost/benefit. Tice and Emery obviously that keeping Clutts to be a FB is not going to be more beneficial to the Bears than keepimg a fourth tight end who can perform the same duties (albeit with less talent) and more by being a pass catcher etc.

I do know one thing. We're beating the dead horse now. Clutts is gone. It may not be a big thing. Time will tell. I'm just going to watch what happens this season. I figure it's win/win for me. If the blocking is solid and the team performs well & we go deep into the playoffs. Life is good.

If on the other hand, the wheels come off and we are bottom-feeders again, then Emery gets out his big broom and sweeps some coaches out the door and we start this cycle all over again.

I've watched this for over 50 seasons now. Same with the Cubs. It's "The Big Cycle" that goes over and over again. At least we had '85.

Question is, how will we tell how much the Bears/Texans are affected by Clutts?

One thing that amazes me. A good thing. It's amazing how astute Bears fans are. Over many years, I've observed the fans reactions to countless personnel moves. More often than not, the fans spot a mistake that Bears coaches over the years miss. We've all watched a boatload of Bears regimes, spanning decades (at least I think there are a lot of older fans on this board).

I've seen the coaches countless times, making moves that the fans question - and time bears out the fact that the fans were right, and the coaches wrong. Ultimately the coaches get fired. The fans? We just watch and suffer through the countless seasons, scratching our heads, wondering how people can be so stupid.

For me Benj, it will be when I watch the Bears settle for field goals instead of TD's when we have 1st and goal situations. I'll close my eyes and rewatch that beautiful Clutts/Bush TD with Clutts trucking defenders & Bush dancing in the end zone. Same with 3rd and short yardage, when we can't move the chains.

Will this all be due to Clutts? No. But, I will know in my heart that we gave away an asset that could have made us better.

Hey, I've seen countless bad moves by the Bears and Cubs over the past 50+ years. So, I'm no cherry here. You get used to it, and go on. Gotta admire Bears and Cubs fans for their loyalty if nothing else.

You mean like last year when he was here?

Not trying to fight or argue, but we struggled last year with 1st and goal situations when he was here. Foster was a stud last year so I cant see Clutts helping him too much more.

I liked Clutts, and will miss him. But with him or without him, our overall blocking sucked.

We didn't have Bush. I saw the Clutts/Bush thing as a mini-unit. Forte will never be a goal line RB with a poor oline in front of him. We never get any push on the goal line, or on 3rd and short situations. We get owned by opponents dlines. Bush/Clutts would have been a unit resource to overcome this.

Bush by himself will be better than Forte was last year. But with Clutts we would have had a better weapon combo. Deadly.

My only thinking here (in my pea brain) was that moving the chains effectively & getting TD's instead of settling for FG's would be a significant help to a team. It's not a stretch to think that this could affect game outcomes. And with game outcomes you have to think about season outcomes. This is a "game of inches" sometimes. The Clutts/Bush weapon would have been nice to have.

yes, it could affect game outcomes. Every roster move will.

Well statistically Forte is not good at getting into the end zone. Tice is selling a running team and that requires some 2 back sets.
Who and how is hidden atm.

What JABF said above. Well put.

Bush was brought in as a power back precisely because he excels where Forte doesn't (GL, short yardage). We all raved about the move when it happened precisely for the synergistic benefits. Could have been all the more so with TC adding to the punch. That TD he keeps referencing was against a 1st string DL that's one of the better ones in the NFL.

    Bottom line:

This was a stupid personnel move, eerily reminiscent of some other OC-driven ones we are all familiar with the last few years, until proven otherwise.

Would love to be proven wrong but that remains to be seen and I won't believe it until I see it.
