    Overview
McManis was a productive, three-year starter for Northwestern. He has a good combination of size and strength but lacks elite athleticism for the position. He runs well but lacks great quickness in transition and lateral agility. McManis has solid instincts in zone coverage but can lose leverage when in man schemes. He is limited at times in opening his hips to turn and run deep with top receivers. He isn't an explosive athlete but shows range once he gets going. He is a willing run-support defender but isn't physical and misses too often in space. McManis has some tools to build on, with decent return skills, but he lacks talent to contribute much as a rookie.
    Analysis
    Strengths
McManis has a nice blend of size and speed. Understands his responsibilities in zone coverage and does a good job anticipating routes. Closes fast when the ball is in the air and has the body control and hands to make interceptions. Hard worker who gives a spirited effort.
    Weaknesses
Lacks the top end speed to stick with receivers in man coverage. Is not fluid through the hips and struggles making transitions. Not physical enough in press coverage and likely will get pushed around by bigger receivers at the next level. Does not seek out contact in run support.

Well, once again Tice is going with the JA philosophy. The guy has got the right physical size, etc (just like Webb). So Tice is going to make him into a Superbowler too.

There are some positives here. At least we got something for Clutts, and that's better than just cutting him. The young CB we're getting is a bit like Tillman (taller guy) with a lot of upside. Peanut is getting older, so I'm guessing the Bears are all about getting a young guy to groom to replace him someday. In our division, we need a "Peanut-type" CB. Maybe this guy will be good enough to BE that guy. It's worth a try. I commend the Bears for that.

I'm bummed we let Clutts go. But at least we got SOMETHING for him.
    Trestman - Kromer - Tucker - DeCamillis

I'm looking forward to seeing these guys coach. Hope they're good.

Very true. By far beats just cuting him. I like that they were able to do that. But didn't agree with the cut to begin with....

Let's hope he's better than that. There isn't one CB I saw playing last night who I'd keep on the roster. Frey sucked, Wilhite never has shown anything in the preseason and McCoy had one good play but failed to wrap up a guy on another and allowed a big gain.

Why do I have visions of Clutts lead blocking for Arian Foster pounding the ball against us this year?

Oh yeah, cuz that's what's gonna happen...
