With the massive cuts today, any chance we pick up an oline guy?

I need a "reality check" here

With so many players getting released today, do you think the Bears would grab an oline guy? I'm not talking about a great LT (I'm not quite that stupid) but just a young prospect who might be better than some of the worse guys we have now. Like a replacement for Rachal.

It just seems like this might be an opportunity to begin the 2013 rebuilding of the oline, by adding 1 guy now. It might make next year's task a bit less daunting.

    Is this unrealistic thinking?

always a chance... but OL might be the hardest non skill position to fill so it is hard to see any team really cutting anyone who might actually have real talent. But worth a look for sure

Soul found this guy. He's only 22 years old, and still learning and improving. He was a first round pick for SF (11th overall pick of the 2010 draft) and had an expensive contract. SF has olinemen like we had WR's this year. Too many good ones to keep everyone, and Davis was costing them a lot of money. Sounds like he was really bad his first season, but has gradually been improving since then. He stared all 16 games in each of his first two seasons.

    2010 NFL Draft

Davis was drafted in the 1st round with the 11th-overall pick by the San Francisco 49ers after the 49ers traded up from the 13th-overall pick with the Denver Broncos in order to select Davis. On July 30, 2010, Davis signed a five-year contract worth $26.5 million, with $15.954 million guaranteed.[6]

Davis is currently the starting Right Tackle for the 49ers. He has started all 16 games in each of his first two NFL seasons.

    LINK to the article

Right tackle Anthony Davis is not fighting for a roster spot. He is not fighting for a starting job, either.

Davis is entrenched as the starter, and should be ready for a breakout season. His pass protection looks better, as working in the 49ers' entire offseason conditioning program has him in better shape and more sound with his technique than at any point in the past.

Yes, it's the exhibition season. But there's nothing inconsequential about these games for offensive linemen. Hits on the quarterback are just as dangerous -- and hurt just as much -- as they do in the regular season.

The starters are expected to play longer Sunday for the 49ers and Broncos. So that means Davis will be entrusted to block Von Miller, the reigning NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year, for a long period of time. Miller recorded 11.5 sacks last season.

Miller's quickness off the snap, combined with the possibility of crowd noise that could make it difficult for the tackles to hear Smith's cadence, will provide a major challenge for Davis.

"I think everybody in the NFL is pretty quick," Davis said. "But I know what you mean. He's exceptionally quick."

Pass protection was a problem in the 49ers' exhibition game against the Houston Texans, though the offensive line was generally not to blame. Guard Mike Iupati allowed one hit on the quarterback. Running back Kendall Hunter did not pick up a blitz, and Alex Smith admitted making bad decisions that left him exposed.

Left tackle Joe Staley will be equally tested on the other side against Broncos' edge rusher Elvis Dumervil.
"With crowd noise behind them, it will be great work for us," 49ers offensive coordinator Greg Roman said. "It will really be good work for us. I think just the way their defense is built right now with those two players coming off the edges, it's tremendous work for us. We have to be on our 'A' game."
