It's a pretty nice roster all things considered. Nice blend of older vets, some young talent with upside and a few rookies with some ability to make an impact. We could see a handful of changes over the weekend but it looks to me like we're pretty well set where he need to be.

It's a much stronger starting roster than we began with last year thank you Phil Emery. At least he was smart enough to see the value in Clutts and trade him for someone we needed to fill out our depth at CB. It's these little things he does that make me very confident in him as a GM.

I don't argue with any of the cuts save Tyler Clutts but we helped ourselves defensively with the trade so it's not all bad. The kid we got for him has some size and the kind of skills we look for in a CB. My main grip with the Clutts thing is that we traded him because Tice doesn't use a FB. So just how similar is that to last year when we traded Olsen because Martz couldn't use him either. In both instances we got rid of productive football players and kept guys who aren't as productive based on our OC's unproven offensive schemes.

It's a little tough to figure out why we get rid of one of the best blocking backs in the league in order to keep a 4th string TE but hey, what do I know? Maybe some day we'll get smarter than that and just keep the better football player.

My one other rant is that the Jets and Rex Ryan are total fucking assholes. They put in a waiver claim for P Spencer Lanning which prevented us from bringing him in for a look and then they cut him a couple of days later. I really hate the "foot fetish" big mouthed prick. He's a first degree douche bag with a hard on for the Bears because of his old man and the next time we play them I hope we run the ball right up his fat ass.

I'm not unhappy with Quigley and in the final analysis it makes no difference since as soon as Podlesh is healthy he's back anyway but it was an F' You move by them and it pisses me off. Ryan is a jerk.

I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

Yeah, I'm pleased too. We made progress in our first off-season without Jerry Angelo. In fairness to Emery, there were a lot of holes to plug. It's going to take another year to "right the ship" completely.

Moving forward, I'm hoping our focus is more on younger players with upside, rather than has-been old vets. We have our own vets all over the roster, and that's great. It balances everything out. And I'm completely OK with bringing in an occasional old vet where we are in crisis mode for talent. But where we have the luxury to choose, I'm hoping we always keep an eye on younger players with up-side, rather than on guys on the way down.

And finally, I hope we build a great team primarily through the draft. Yes, there are exceptions, but primarily our focus should be on drafting top-tier talent. I'm hoping that now we have Emery on board, we can do that consistently. With fewer misses.

Is that like a first degree black belt except they use a bag of dicks to throw instead of a bag of Ninja stars?
