Dagan, I don't doubt that he might turn into a decent player, he might. He'd be a hell of a SAM, or a OLB. He stands no chance of being elite though, he just doesn't have the strength. Hell they have to blitz a corner from the outside and drop Shea into coverage b/c he cannot get the pressure needed. We are altering the very nature of the D to compensate for his inability to get off the OT. But I am holding him to the standard that Emery put on him; a 4 down DE which he is not.

After watching the game last night I am wondering if any team in the NFL has a good O line.
The Giants line is pretty mediocre at best iircBut their left tackle situation might be worse than ours by the end of the year. .
It's not unusual for a good oline to look rough the first few games of the season. Especially run blocking. So, I try to give an oline the benefit of the doubt those first couple of games - unless they totally look horrible.
I'm going to try to be patient with our oline too. We may see them get better as the early season progresses.

OL can be bad, IF, your QB FEELS the pressure and has a spot to step into to get rid of the ball. Eli did a good job of that yesterday, thought they had him, step and throw.

Emery was somewhat more muted in his praise. He noted that Webb has the perfect build to be a left tackle, and his hope is that by cementing Webb and Chris Spencer together on the left side of the line, the two linesmen can develop the type of team chemistry required for a zone blocking scheme like Mike Tice's to work successfully. Joniak had to rain on the optimism parade by mentioning that only one team had the same offensive line on the field every week last season, but Emery and Lovie were consistent in their support and also made vague references to making sure that "everyone on offense" is required to make sure the line can hold up. BiH, I think Emery is putting this season 100% on the coaches, get the job done or I'll bring in someone that can. If that happens, look for him to bring in a 3-4 guy or O guy for the HC, and if it's an O guy look for him to insist his DC be a 3-4 guy. At that point, Shea problem solved b/c he now moves to a OLB on run plays, and potentially DE on Rush downs.
