    What we learned

This one is short and simple, b/c it's something that has been discussed on this site many times.

On Chicago's O: This OL will dicate how well this team performs. First two drives tons of pressure, bad things, rest of the game, Cutler started running out of the pocket and shifting and it cleared things up. BMarsh IS going to make everyone of the other WR's better b/c they can now not have to worry about being the #1, and just worry about doing what they do best: Bennett/Hester working the middle. Jeffery working the outside(pats self on back while saying told ya so, this kid is legit and will be an impact player all year). TE's did what I thought they would, make 1 or 2 pass plays and then block. Kellen Davis is no Ditka. I also said that the it would be a clear BMarsh 1, and the rest splitting time, rec's: Marsh 9, Bennett/Jeffery/Forte 3, Hester 2, Day 1. Expect a lot of this type of spread. RB's had room to run, and catch the ball after catching. Apparently A Rod can block okay; and Bush can get a goal line punch w/out the HoF FB no longer leading the way. Take one precaution, things broke open when Freeny went out in the first qtr. So the OL gets a bit of an incomplete. Lets see what they can do against GB. Also 33 runs, 35 passes. Near 50%. Expect more of that also

On Chicago's D: Lovie is going to let pressure come however it can, not just the front 4. And you see the mixed blessing that is. When we got pressure it wreaked havoc, when not huge chunks of yards were given up. Hope Tillman is back next game, Jennings showed he's capable, but I'd be much happier w/both on the field. LB's, man they disappeared outside of the Briggs pressure to get Melton a sack. But I think we all knew that was going to happen when Ulracher wasn't in there. DB's looked okay, better then I thought. Wayne and Fleener and Avery are going to cause a lot of problems for a lot of teams. That's a nice mix of size speed and sure hands, and Luck is going to be at least a decent qb. Lets hope Melton doesn't only have 1/2 of the sacks he got in Game one this year like he did last year. A Wooton siting, which gave Peppers his FR, wtg. Paea and McClellen were really no shows outside of each getting a qb pressure early on. Need both of them to step up.

On Colts O: That is not a great OL, and they lost their RT in the 3rd qtr. Brown is not a good RB, but if you give him a whole he can gash you. Wayne/Avery/Fleener are going to make a great combo for the next few years. Luck will be solid, he never got rattled by the pressures sacks or int's. he's REAL accurate though.

On Colts D: seems they are making a fairly quick transistion to 3-4 from 4-3. Their D was rocking Chicago's world until Freeny went out. This could have been a different game(Bears still win but not a blow out) if he's there 4 qtrs. But it's going to still take time to get all the right peices and for their DE's now LB's to get used to what they are doing.

For a first game I expected to see a rough product on the field. It sure started that way. But I was pleasantly surprised by how good the team looked after shaking off some rust. They were FAR better than I expected today.

Regarding the opponent today, the Bears don't get to pick who they face. They "took care of business" today. That's all you can ask. This team should continue to get better with each game, especially over the course of the next 3 or 4 games.

    I'm really pleased.

Ya it was nice to see the team finally just destroy a bad team. It wasn't pretty at first, but they didn't buckle and came back and just owned it.

THis is kinda what I expected on O though, the OL is going to be what causes rough spots, the rest of this O is polished.

What we didn't get is more important than what we did get. The line blocked well for most of the game. Even in tight we scored three running TDs inside the ten which virtually never happened last year. The line didn't fall apart and Webb actually held up and didn't embarrass himself.

    I call that progress.

Soul, good point, Webb and A Rod both were key in Forte's first long run.

Going to Marshall for pass interference match ups vs. inexperienced refs was smart. Almost shot my TV after that first series and pick 6 lol.

One thing I did pickup on defensively is that we still need some work on gap control. Urlacher failed to take that A gap Brown went through on his and Toe didn't get over fast enough to cover it.

Whenever teams gash up with big runs that's always the reason. We over pursue and all of the gaps don't get filled. The need to watch the game tapes and clean that up.

I thought you didn't drink...much, Benji? Do we have a alcohol dependency issue bubbling up to the surface that we didn't know about before? lol
