It's all about real estate. Location, location, location. Wrigley attracts it's crowds from the high rent districts on the Northside the Sox get the blue collar crowd. One set has money the other doesn't and expects a winner for their money not just a pleasant afternoon in the "friendly confines" of old Wrigley Field.
With the Cubs it's about entertainment but with the Sox it's about competition. If the Sox aren't competitive folks stay home. The Cubs are seldom competitive but that isn't the reason fans come out. It never has been or that ballpark would have been empty for decades.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

My point was simply this. Where are the Sox fans this year? They have been in first place almost all year and fans still are not showing up. I get that they wont show up if their team is not competitive, but they are competitive and they still dont show.

on mondays they have half off ticket night and it still not close to selling out and detroit fans travel to watch their team and still no sell out. The fans just arent showing up its not the price of admission.

Blue collar paycheck to paycheck bunch like I said and the economy has hurt that group. Less $$$ to spend on entertainment and it's not cheap to go to a game. It's all pretty much demographics. The average Sox fan is not the same as the average Cubs fan.

Maybe not completely but it is a factor. No money for sports means no money just like anything else. The store might be having a 50% off sale but if you can't afford to buy it the offer does little good.
I think location has always been a part of it as well. The neighborhood right around the park is OK but nearby lurks danger. West of the Dan Ryan is OK but East you don't want to go or at last is was that way the last time I was around there. Maybe it's different now and someone would say otherwise but I doubt it.
When I was back in Chicago in 2005 most of the Sox fans I knew and my Dad's buddies would rather catch a few beers at the local bar and watch than go down to the game. I just think Sox fans have a different mind set than Cubs fans that's all. We see it here in Denver too.

Well...you are half right.
Seeing as how Cubs fans come from all over the state of IL, nay, country even...you cant really just chalk it up to the LOCAL crowd (this isnt the 1920s anymore, people have cars and stubhub.com)
But...you were right about Location...Wrigley gets fans because of its atmosphere and the fact that it is one of the last few iconic ballparks remaining. If someone who has never even BEEN to a pro ball game before were to ask where should they go to watch a game, you could recommend Wrigley Field and pretty much guarantee that person will have an enjoyable experience.
The ballpark itself is one of the biggest draws the Cubs have, which is why people show up win or lose.
I'm trying//to let go//of maybe//but maybe's just so//very interesting//Oh, what a thing.

Been to all three (Comiskey). Wrigley just looks better from the stands. You're closer, and can feel the game better. Comiskey wasn't bad, but the new Sox park whatever they call it, well, I can't explain it. It's antisceptic. No feel to it, no atmosphere. You sit way up high and can't see the player's expressions. Might as well watch on TV you get a better view. Thank God they ripped out the super nose-bleed seats. It was like watching from the Goodyear blimp without a telescope.
And there is truth to the neighborhood thing too. Wrigley is a party. Comiskey is in a desert. There's a few hot dog stands, but no place to hang before or after. When I go to a game, I'm there for fun and enjoyment. Entertainment. Yes, I want my team to be competetive and win, but it's an experience, the winning is only part of it. A big part yes, it's more fun when we win.
But back to the main topic....

In the White Sox defense, the neighborhood isn't all that bad anymore. It has been cleaned up and is not really a threat anymore. No more than Wrigley is, sadly.

Don't know about the MLB, but most NFL fans that goto the games are blue collar. That is a stat spouted off by Colin Cowheard all the time, majority of exec's are either in the boxes or are staying at home. I don't buy the money as the sole issue. Chicogo has always been Bears/Blackhawks/Cubs/Bulls and in the far last place is the Sox. Its a shame to b/c the team is far better run.

When we have the ball,

We went to the Bears game this weekend & after the game my brother drove us over to checkout Wrigley & we really enjoyed it. Many places to eat & party. I kept expecting Harry Caray to pop up somewhere & ask me if it was time for a cold bud due to the atmosphere you get just riding around the neighborhood. I've never been to an area like that before where it seemed everyone had AT LEAST one or two cars parked on the side of the road but everyone was walking around, more bike traffic than cars, & we only saw 1 or 2 gas stations. It seemed like everything you needed was with in walking distance. A very unique place I could see my self retiring in one day if I'm lucky. That or Florida! lol
Back to the orginal post (being at the game) I was surprised how much wopping & hollering was going on while the Bears had the ball. Not only in the red zone but the entire game. Even my 19yr old daughter, who is a big Bear fan, knows to shut the hell up between plays when we have the ball.
