Now that we have a vet backup OT I still think our interests would be best served by putting CWill back at LG. If it's Tice's intent to play his five best then as a LG CWill should be one of those five.
As for Scott, the best we can hope for is that we don't have to use him. Both Webb and Carimi played well yesterday and let's hope they both stay healthy and Scott is nothing more than that parachute you hope you're never gonna need.
they played well once freeney got injured.
but Carimi held his own against a pretty fast player in mathis.

I agree he's not a great player, but he could be a help to our team as a backup.
When he's healthy, he's decent, certainly decent for a swing tackle backup. He is a better run blocker than pass blocker. He appeared in 58 games, including 3 playoff starts for the Steelers. I'm not saying he's a starter, but he is a decent pickup for a swing tackle. He's been a starting LT in the NFL. He comes out of a great program in college too (Texas, a National Championship team where he was a consensus All American).
Here he is taking out two DT's on one play to spring Big Ben for a 16 yard TD run.

I'd rather see this guy as our swing tackle, than C.Will. I'd like to see C.Will back at LG where he's a lot better than what we have there now (Spencer). He's 29 years old, so not over the hill.
Bottom-line is that he is about as good as you're going to get at this point for a backup. I'm not thrilled with the guy either. Just pointing out that he's got some value for us this year.

True. Webb wasn't tested as well as he would have been but when I focused on him he protected against the inside rush pretty well (much better than in the past) and was taking his man around the back of the pocket on the edge rushes.
One think I noticed is that by going to five step drops the OTs have that room to maneuver their guy around Cutler whereas last year he was squarely in their sites and there was no room to take a guy there.
Carmi did well for a first outing following his injury too. He didn't need to be replaced so that's a good sign. Damn he's still almost a rookie so if he can play this well now by year end he should be really solid.

Jonathan Scott's college recruiting video. Too bad he couldn't dominate like this for us hmm?

I think the objective was to get an OT with some starting experience and he may be the ugliest girl at the party but he was the last one who wasn't going home with someone else. I don't think we could have done any better than him or we would have.
Let's just hope he never plays and that this allows us to move CWill back to LG. The Spencer experiment isn't working very well.

Grubb get's a shrug and a maybe but Nicks gets a resounding NO. There is no way I guarantee an OG LT kind of money. Sorry but as good as he may be he ain't worth $11 mil plus per year.

All I can say is that if we are fishing for backup OT's that are able to backup Webb (ie not as good as Webb, but could back him up when needed), then CW is about ready to go. CW was supposed to be the backup and apparently he is not even good enough to back up Webb.

No I think this move was made with the thought of putting CWill back inside where he belongs. We needed him at OT for an emergency but if Scott can handle that CWill played well enough at LG last years to deserve that spot back. We should have made a move like this last spring and then CWill would never have been moved.

Chris Williams is not about to leave this team anytime soon, houston. For starters, I think he's going to wind up at LG before the year is out. We basically disowned Edwin Williams and Chilo Rachal was the worst move the Bears made this entire past off season, so I don't think it will be long before Spencer screws up and finds himself on the outside looking in. Chris Williams is simply too good of a LG to just leave him out in the cold forever.
I'll tell you this: if the Bears do cut CWill, it will make Lovie, Tice, Holt, and even Emery look like what our old pal BBPB would call "a bag of dicks."
