Bears waive Quigley, sign OT Scott

    Just found this.

    LINK to the article

LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- The Chicago Bears made a series of roster moves on Monday as they released punter Ryan Quigley; signed offensive tackle Jonathan Scott; signed tight end Dedrick Epps to the practice squad; and terminated the practice squad contract of offensive tackle Cory Brandon.

The club also reinstated defensive tackle Nate Collins to the active roster after he spent Week 1 on the reserve/suspended list.

Quigley performed admirably in the final two preseason games and the Bears kept the undrafted rookie punter on the original 53 man roster to protect themselves in case starter Adam Podlesh had to miss time with a hip flexor injury. But Podlesh returned in time to punt in the regular season opener versus the Indianapolis Colts so there was no need to carry two punters moving forward. The hope is Quigley did enough in the preseason to warrant consideration from other NFL teams if a need at punter ever arises.

Scott has spent time with the Detroit Lions, Buffalo Bills and Pittsburgh Steelers since he entered the league as a fifth round draft choice of the Lions in 2006. Scott started 14 regular season games and three playoff contests over the last two years for the Steelers but got cut by Pittsburgh in July. He got picked up the Lions but hurt his knee and was eventually released from their injured reserve list.

"I'm just glad to be a part of it," Scott said. "I'm sure I'll get an opportunity to (get in the mix) here. We had a brief dialogue after I got released from Detroit, and with having good history in Pittsburgh, hopefully my skill set helps the team. I 'm healthy, real healthy, healthy enough to play."

Collins impressed the coaching staff in training camp and bumps up the number of defensive tackles on the roster to five. The Bears re-signed Amobi Okoye last week but failed to activate him for the game against the Colts.
    Trestman - Kromer - Tucker - DeCamillis

I'm looking forward to seeing these guys coach. Hope they're good.

His problem hasn't been talent so much as health issues. He should be a solid backup tackle. He's a Tice-type tackle. Good size, strength & athleticism. More of a RT than a LT, but could serve as a swing tackle, freeing up C.Will to help at LG if Spencer fizzles there.

Yep, I think Cwill is our best bet at LG vs. Spencer or Chilo

His 25.5 sacks and 29 penalties in 28 career starts beg to differ.

Wonder if someone is injured or nicked up after the first game thus prompting this signing? I expected Spencer to be really bad after the pre-season games, but he was decent in game 1 so I am a little surprised by this signing.

Man I thought Spencer was horrible in run blocking. He just doesn't have what it takes to get out in front of an outside run and he couldn't move his man at all on the inside runs to the left. The best I could say about him is that his pass blocking seems OK but it was at RG last year as well.

Now that we have a vet backup OT I still think our interests would be best served by putting CWill back at LG. If it's Tice's intent to play his five best then as a LG CWill should be one of those five.

As for Scott, the best we can hope for is that we don't have to use him. Both Webb and Carimi played well yesterday and let's hope they both stay healthy and Scott is nothing more than that parachute you hope you're never gonna need.

lklrlolnlilklsox, where do you get sack and penalty numbers? I'd love a real evaluation site with pressures, hits, fraction of team's sacks a player allowed etc.
