I totally agree that he is a 1 trick pony. But for some reason, this type of RB gives us problems. We seem to handle the quick/fast RB's with no problem. But the Benson type, that are downhill power backs, they have absolutely killed us in some games. Benson had close to 200 yards in that previous game (obviously, he gets hyped up to the max for us, because we cut him).
The Bengals buried us that day with Benson. Embarrassed us. They reeled off 45 points that day.
I will NEVER forget that defeat. Benson just pissed on us, and we took it -- all day long.

Benson's career-high 189 yards
lead Bengals in thrashing of Bears Cedric Benson smiled as he greeted his old Bears teammates and coaches at midfield, warmly pumping their hands or wrapping a beefy arm around their shoulder pads for a hug.
No need to rub it in. Everyone knew what he'd just done.
A commanding win over the Bears brought more than just confidence.
He got his revenge, all right.Benson ran for a career-high 189 yards and a touchdown against the team that let him go, and
Carson Palmer threw five touchdown passes -- four during Cincinnati's dominant first half --
in a shocking 45-10 victory Sunday that will go down as one of the worst days in Bears history."
Everybody knew it was going to be an emotional day," said Benson, who spent two turmoil-filled seasons in Chicago. "
Everybody knew.
What a wonderful day and a wonderful thing, to go out there and strut your stuff."

Pretty much agree, awesome post. I thought the same thing.. Great minds think the same ye? ;)
If we can nutralize Rogders and his WR they can run as much as they will. If we can take their MVP out then this kid can run more than Forte..
As Dags said we're might not the best defense against the running game, but it sure as hell ain' the worst..
I hope I didn't jinx it..

Benson, like most power backs, needs a hole and a head of steam so the way to contain is to not give him either. That's how SF did it. You need to force him to run lateral to the line and take away his north/south lanes.
We need to control the gaps better than we did last week and a lot of that is on Urlacher who hopefully is improving each day at getting back to his old self. If we can take Benson away early it's pretty likely they'll abandon the run and take to the air. The more one dimensional we can make them the better.
Our pass rush is better than last year, the Safeties are playing well together and Jennings is playing the best ball of his career so far so provided we don't give up the big play we should be able to limit their passing game enough to win. But if they can run the ball too we've got trouble.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

We will have to see. Packers might have actually given up on the run and I think that is crazy.
The person in the backfield I'm more worried about than Benson is Randall Cobb because of they way he is used.
Since Greg Jennings is down, even if he plays, I think Jermichael Finley and James Jones are the players to watch Aaron feed. Despite the fact Jordy killed the Bears on Christmas last year, I am not that high on him this week. Mostly because of how impressed I was with Hayden and Tim Jennings last week.
Finley and Cobb... They will take what cover 1 and cover 2 give 'um.

I agree totally. I don't think it was a coincidence that the last time he killed us, Urlacher was injured. Look at that pic of Benson gashing us. It's Roach and Briggs in his dust. That was the season Brian was out.
We need Brian Urlacher to be pretty close to his old self. Healthy and on top of his game.
Our dline seems to be built to be optimized against passing attacks (like Rodgers and Stafford) for obvious reasons. But we seem to struggle sometimes against running attacks like Benson. If Benson has a big day, Rodgers will have an even bigger day. They will control the ball, the clock and our "D" will tire and get killed. Like that day against Benson where he racked up almost 200 yards & Carson Palmer crushed our throat passing & they scored 45 points. Only 1 of those TD's was Benson. It opened up everything else that day.
It was a living hell of a game.
Those folks that laugh off Cedric Benson's importance in this game, fail to understand that WITH Aaron Rodgers THIS will be a lethal combination. Gotta stop Benson too.

Bears scouting report: Packers RB Cedric Benson
Packers running back Cedric Benson warms up before a game against the Bengals. (Rob Leifheit-US PRESSWIRE / September 12, 2012) |
By Dan Pompei, Chicago Tribune reporter 6:48 p.m. CDT, September 12, 2012
Information for this report was obtained from NFL scouts.
Cedric Benson joined the Packers on Aug. 12 after spending the offseason as a free agent. The Bears chose him with the fourth overall pick in the 2005 draft but released him two years later. He played for the Bengals the last four seasons.
Over the last three seasons, only six players have run for more yards than Benson. He is an effective inside zone runner. At 5-foot-11, 227 pounds, he is a bruiser and plays with balance. He runs with good vision and makes good decisions. Benson uses very good footwork. He gives defenders a small target to hit.
Benson does not have great breakaway speed or elusiveness. He does not have top receiving skills, but he can catch screens and dump-offs.
Benson has fumbled 12 times over the last two seasons, which is a big reason why he is a former Bengal. Opponents should go for the football from behind when he carries. Smaller players should hit him low, and gang tackling is recommended.

I really don't know where all this love for Cedric Benson is coming from. I'd almost guarantee about five thousand Bears Bucks to seven of you that he won't be heard of from the backfield tonight. Rodgers is going to be made one-dimensional in this game. He might pass for over 300 yards, but bet that the Packers don't rush for as many yards as the Colts did against us.
Call me crazy, but that's just how I see it.

How ya'll like your crow served? Benson has had 3 1K seasons in Cincy, and now he has an O that isn't about him? Where you have to worry about the QB and passing game first? And he owned us. He has every time he's played us.
