i hope people read this
tice is overrated like marinelli was
marinelli didnt look good until they spent on peppers
tice wont look good until some serious upgrades are made on the oline
again i say wouldnt nicks or grubbs look good right now over garbage upgrades to the special fucking teams lmfao
I'm probably grasping at straws here but ...... maybe they could rotate C Will in at LT some of the time . They do it with D-linemen all the time . Might keep guys fresh enough to hang with certain LB's and DE's - gives em a different player / a different look to try and figure out - and if there's two guys playing balls out ( cuz they're getting plenty of rest ) the whole time, it might just wear that other player out .
Just a thought . Or is Cwill really that much worse . Hard to believe .
Glad somebody else saw what I did. By half time I knew we were in trouble unless that came back out with some major adjustments and when they didn't it was all over but the shouting. You could see it on the faces of everyone on the offense. They just sent them back out with the same knives and asked them to win a gunfight. I shut it off about half way through the 3rd because they were cooked. A team has to believe they can win right up until the final gun and I could see just by looking at them that they didn't.
The time has come for Mike Tice to abdicate the play calling to Jeremy Bates and to devote whatever time he doesn't spend with Bates developing the game plan doing something about finding blocking schemes that work or at the very least getting the kind of execution he needs from what he has to work with.
This is like the years that Lovie made Babich DC and took over coaching the LBs. It didn't work. Tice has an issue with his line and luckily he has a guy with a successful track record calling plays with Cutler at QB. It's time to defer to that just a bit and get this offense on track.
The right side of the line holds up pretty well but Webb can't handle speed and Spencer can't handle power so Cutler gets a double whammy on his blind side. Webb can't keep the edge clean and Spencer gets pushed back into him so he has no room to step up. I don't think either of those issues can be fixed right now so a change seems like the only solution starting with Spencer first now that we actually have a backup OT with starting experience.
Tice needs to focus on that line and Bates needs to start coordinating the passing game and calling plays. There were too few arrows in the quiver last night to win. It's hard to make adjustments when they weren't ever considered in the game plan to begin with.
Without Forte we're gonna be forced into a power rushing game for awhile and maybe that's good so get that run blocking coordinated. That may be the only thing that saves Webb's ass for a while and get Spencer out of there. He's a awful run blocker but CWill isn't.
This looks so much like the start of last year where we hosed Atlanta and came out way too proud and talking way too loud and got exposed again. We can't run any offense without blocking so Tice needs to get that fixed and that should be his prime focus now until it is.
As mad as we all are at Webb, he's our best option at LT. Which is pathetic. Because he's really our only option at LT (unless by some miracle Scott lights it up in practice). 99% chance that Webb is the starting LT as long as he's not hurt.
But, CWill could help us at LG where he's >>> Spencer. Put him back there RIGHT NOW. Crazy glue Spaeth to Webb's fat left hip on every pass play. That's the best we are going to be able to do to improve this OL until next offseason.
Of course that's too obvious and logical so Tice probably won't do it.
I hope so. Spencer was awful
Whether or not Webb is our only option remains to be seen. I know this much though. Until he actually threatened with sitting he'll continue along the same path he's been on. He's a little too smug about his starting spot right now because he doesn't see a challenge. He never did. Maybe a guy like Scott whose struggling to stay in the league can bring his A game where Webb can't I don't know but Webb doesn't appear to even have one.
If there's one guy on this team who pisses himself when he's up against a top rusher it's Webb, not Cutler. We would have seen this last week if Freeney hadn't been hurt. Webb can't handle speed to the outside and the minute he over compensates for that his guy beats him with a double move back to the inside and then Cutler really gets killed. If he can get his hands on a guy he can control him but once he gets off balance and lunges rather moving his feet and driving the guy off he's cooked and he does that a lot.
He plays lazy and doesn't finishes his blocks and to me that fits right in with his whole attitude about the game. He's basically lazy all the way around. When Garza had the whole line working out together between OTAs and camp where was Webb? Absent most days trying to make sure Taco Bell didn't go out of business without him? Until he grows up he's nothing but a big kid who gets by some of the time because of sheer size but that only works against guys that are as mediocre as he is. Once he gets up against the real thing he steps on his dick and the offense suffers.
If he could protect then Cutler has time to go through his reads but when he can't even get three seconds before the rush is in his face it's gonna have an effect no matter who you are. Rodgers didn't do so well last night either when we got to him. Webb remains the weak link in the chain and until we resolve that problem the passing game we could have will suffer. We see Matthews and Jared Allen twice a year each.
