I've just got a few comments. First, I agree with everything you said. If I were an opposing coach and I knew that the team I was playing had a horrible O line on the left side and that the QB tended to get frustrated and make mistakes when pressured, guess what I'd do? I'd pressure him all game long and that's exactly what they did.
My comments are these -- how high does your IQ have to be as a Bears coach to come up with the idea that it is well known that you have a deficient OL and that opposing teams with a good pass rush migh have a gamer plan to pressure your QB? Maybe the Giants game last year might have given them a clue? Hmm... If not, maybe the Giants preseason game added to that this year might have awakened some sort of awareness? If not even that, how about when the GB game opened up with Cutler being sacked and then running for his life after that? I'm not sure what it takes for our caoching staff, but apparently those subtle clues were not enough.
Why everyone knew except them is a mystery. Extra protection should have been in from the beginning. I understand that it was to some degree, but that too many times Webb was left one on one EVEN AFTER THE GAME WAS UNFOLDING BEFORE THEIR VERY EYES. I'm going to need a road map to understand the logic of that one.
Secondly, I really don't think that Cutler has always folded under pressure. If you go back a couple of years, I think Cutler was no where as gun shy. He stood in and took shot after shot. At this point in time I think he has really changed in that way. I can't say I blame him, but I think it is a self preservation response more than being in-grained. I actually think he was way above average in this regard. What I am really worried about is that I was one that thought Grossman had above average ability. As he continued to be a road test dummy for opposing DLs, you could see his confidence and game play change. He was never consistently good, but you could still see his confidence erode. I am afraid that we are into that process with Cutler. I am not sure it is an irreversable process.
I have heard that WRs come to Chicago to die, but I am starting to thing the same about QBs. We HAVE to get a decent line here or I think it will lead to ancilliary problems.
