With Forte injured, Bears bring in veteran running back

Matt Forte's right ankle injury has left the Chicago Bears searching for depth at running back.
A league source confirmed that the team plans to bring in veteran Steve Slaton for a workout. Slaton was a third-round pick of the Texans in the the 2008 NFL Draft. He started this season with Miami but was released Sept. 1. The Dolphins attempted to trade Slaton before his release.
Slaton is due to arrive in Chicago Friday night from Houston, with his workout scheduled for Saturday. The Bears could bring in a few more running backs, too. Another option would be to re-sign Kahlil Bell, who was released during the preseason and remains a free agent. The team waived Bell after he declined to take a pay cut that would have reduced his $1.26 million salary to $700,000.
Forte's status remains unclear, although ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Forte suffered a high ankle sprain in Thursday night's 23-10 loss to the Packers. Michael Bush is expected to start next Sunday against the Rams if Forte is unable to play. Armando Allen is the only other running back on the active roster.
Slaton rushed for 1,282 yards during his rookie season with the Texans, but injuries have affected his career.

If they are bringing in veteran replacements for Forte, maybe the injury is worse than previously thought and he will be out longer than expected.

Was thinking that too. The hits just keep on coming.

If it's a high ankle sprain as reported I'd guess 3-4 weeks minimum. If he can't cut on it he's not gonna get very far with his style of running. Time to look for some help again. Now I think everyone should be able to see why we spent the money on Bush. For whatever reason Forte is injury prone and from what I saw last night that was a nasty blow to his ankle.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

And his being injury prone is why many did not want to see him signed to a big money deal

Was afraid of that. Sounds like he won't be back until after the bye week most likely. Bush/Allen will probably be fine for us vs. St. Louis and Jax but we are going to miss Forte for Dallas big time. I was really hoping before the season opened to make the bye @ 4-1 but this really hurts our chances of reaching that. I'm already dreading another national TV game on the road against a monster pass rusher.

It is a good thing I picked up Bush in FFwhen Forte went down

How is Forte inj prone when his first game missed was last year? and he'll miss 3-4 weeks this w/a rolled ankle. That's hardly injury prone. Rx missed games in his first 3 years and people said it was just fluke/bad luck, now Forte is injury prone b/c of a blown tackle and a sprained ankle?
Not a fan of Slaton, he was fumble prone in Houston which is why they got rid of him. For that we can bring Bell back in.

Yeah, I don't think Forte is injury prone either.

IMO, it seems bringing Bell back would be the logical choice. But the franchise has shown a propensity to defy logic.
