It's the backbone of sports forums. I'm sure that you have friends that have had positions that you don't agree with. Chances are that you don't dislike them but instead their positions on the item at hand. I would just say that if you lose perspective it's easy to take it personal and you shouldn't. Know that if you put out a controversial position (and especially if you are passionate about it or attack others positions), then you will probably get some dislikes.
Taking it out on the people that post dislikes is counterproductive (IMO) because they have just as much a right to their position as you have yours. I think that is the key all the way around. Knowing that not everyone will agree and being not only tolerant of each others positions but each others rights to disagree. As long as it stays polite and doesn't get into personal attacks, that is exactly what these forums are for. I say take a deep breath, recalibrate and enjoy!!
Houston, I am not taking it personally because of the difference of opinion. Rather, I take offense when my intelligence is insulted, as has been stated on another reply to another person to whom I sent. I agree with you 100% that this is a great message board (most of the time), and that as with any sports forum, people are going to disagree with each other with fair regularity. But you just don't go and insult people when there is a difference of opinion -- that's a big no-no when it comes to the art of debating. And as for the "Dislikes" that I got, I really don't care about those; I halfway expected those because I was so adamant in what I believed to be true and that it was so far out in left field compared to what other people were saying at the time. Did I call someone a "neanderthal" and a "caveman" for disagreeing with me when I should not have? Yes, and I sincerely regret doing so (I apologize to you, Blue Horse-shoe, if you ever read this; you deserved a lot better treatment than that.), but by the same token, I was attacked by multiple people for not agreeing with them, and that shouldn't be.
I think you are one of the best posters on these message boards, especially considering that you have been around since what, February? You have brought so much extra knowledge and a perspective that is unique all to yourself to this message board, and I don't think you realize that. But this is one time that I'm going to have to correct you on where I stand. I don't care if people disagree with me, or, for that matter, send me even a 100+ "Dislikes." What matters to me is for people to at least respect my intelligence enough to not make me feel ill-at-ease when I sign on during the days. The lack of respect in that realm is, dare I say, disconcerting.

But what I really wanted to drive home is the fact that there are people on this message board who, just like dabears54 did, seek to castigate and potentially even persecute others simply because they don't fall in line with popular beliefs. I agree with the strategy mishaps and hiccups you mentioned 100%, but my main gripe isn't so much about Cutler or his behavior as it is on how some people treat others. While I don't really care whether or not people agree with me, it does seem funny that I would garner a whopping ten "Dislikes" over the course of the past three days all because I dared disagree with a few posters on this board, and what's worse, I GOT CHEWED UP AND SPIT OUT!!! If I wanted this kind of treatment, I would have stuck around on VolNation.com and talk to a bunch of people who, when you bring up a point about University of Tennessee football being in bad shape, they simply reply with the glaring statement, "This is the stupidest post I have ever read in my life." When the day comes that I start receiving such replies as that, I'll leave this site, and I won't look back.
I knew who/ what you meant with the reference..... DB54. I still don't agree on the JC quitting in the NFC game, he took a shot in the knee and the STAFF shut him down, he WANTED to keep playing. Offer still open if in town, wifey is just a big a BEARS fan as me.

Dags - I read the part in your first post about your intelligence being insulted and purposefully stayed away from it. I guess I'll address it now.
I didn't say anything about it because I simply glossed over the "disagreement" threads. I didn't want to vest myself or take sides because I am here to enjoy myself with some fellowship and not get dragged into the seedier part of forum posting -- and by the way just having glossed over them, I know I have seen ALOT worse insults.
So in short, I don't really know all you are alluding to or who dunnit - and that's on purpose. It's easy for me to ignore because it was not directed at me. Yes, I have a hard time walking away when personally insulted - as a matter of fact I don't so I understand where you are coming from.
Again, I have no idea who is involved (and quite frankly don't want to know), but maybe now that they know how you took it some may come forward and let you know that it was not personal and perhaps that night make it easier to let it slide off your back should it happen again from the same person or even make it easier to send a personal message to try to cleat the air before bombs are dropped from both sides.
Just posting some suggestions without taking any sides and trying to create an atmoshpere that can be built on. I just don;t think this is a forum where we have people that are apt to purposefully insult each other or have to play the internet tough guy. I'd like to believe that now that all cards are out in the open that the players might try to recreate the environment that we all enjoy.
I think misunderstandings are a big part. Just recently I had someone on the forum call me out for insulting them. I truly and honestly had no idea what they were talking about. But whether or not I had insulted him, he felt I had and so I apologized because it was not my intent to insult him. I'm still not really sure what I specifically said that caused it, but it didn't seem important. I didn't mean to insult him and I did so I just said I'm sorry if I insulted you because guess what? If I insulted him, I WAS sorry.
Sorry, that was a lot onger than I meant it to be and probably touched on more than I had intended, but hopefully it helps in some way. He have a close knit group and it should stay that way.

mats, you know how to bring levity to a situation, and I appreciate that. Truth be told, I needed to let off a little steam, and I probably didn't choose the best avenue by which to do so.
BTW, aren't you needed over in The Bar Scene? lol

Thats fine and dandy, just dont make a thread saying "I DONT CARE WHAT YOU PEOPLE THINK!!" When its obvious you do, else you wouldnt have made this thread.
Its the internet...who cares? If you have an opinion, then stick to your opinion. Who cares if someone "likes" or "dislikes" it or disagrees with you? I mean seriously....who gives a shit? I could say i dsiagree with every single person here and they can all dislike every single post i ever make....and i really wouldnt care. Id still come here tomorrow and voice my opinions, regardless of what people say or what button they click on to show their approval or disapproval of my opinions.
In fact...everyone please dislike this post...i havent been "disliked" in awhile, this has caused an imbalance in the Force. Cant let that happen.
I'm trying//to let go//of maybe//but maybe's just so//very interesting//Oh, what a thing.

Try not to take this the wrong way, but you do realize who that one statement makes you sound like, right?
